Fantastic night hike into the rainforest close to Drake Bay. We were in a small group with just 3 other people, along with our guide and a spotter. We were given rubber boots and a flashlight each and we trekked down to the river spotting lots of interesting wildlife along the way (frogs, leaf cutter ants, spiders, lizards). On reaching the river bank we found a Fer-de-lance snake, the most dangerous snake in the Americas! Fortunately it wasn't really interested in us. We then waded down along the river and on through the banana plantation where we found a large Brazilian wandering spider! Along with a red eyed tree frog, a huge Smoky jungle frog, a whip snake, two Kinkajou's (honey bears), a sleeping Toucan, and tapir tracks (but unfortunately no tapirs that evening)! Our guide was very knowledgeable and his English was very good. I originally tried to book "The Bug Lady" but she had no spots available that evening...this was a superb alternative. Brilliant experience - highly recommended!

It is a unique and unmissable experience in my opinion. A couple of hours at night in the woods, along a stream and in the fields of a farm with banana trees and much more. Virtually everything we have seen: insects, reptiles (including in large venomous snakes), sleeping birds, a couple of caimans, river shrimps and even a huge female tapir in search of food.

Great experience! Absolute recommendation! If you like snakes, frogs, insects and other animals and are not afraid of wet feet, this is the place for you! Very nice and competent guide with a lot of knowledge about nature and wildlife!

In fact, one of the most impressive hikes. The guide was extremely competent and guided and through his own property. Numerous animals could be seen, admired and photographed and were given top information about flora and fauna. Really only recommended.

If you’re looking for a genuine, small-group night hike on dirt trails made by tapirs and other wildlife, this is your experience. This is a rugged outdoor hike, crossing rivers at night on a former family plantation turned into a wildlife research station. You will get wet, muddy, sweat-soaked but come away feeling as if you did something very few get to experience. Our guide, Emilio, owns the former plantation and shows a very real love for the land and the plants and animals on it. We saw several species of basilisks, frogs, snakes and insects and followed the tracks of a tapir and its calf for several hundred meters. Throughout the evening, you will feel as if you found “wild” Costa Rica

Emilio clearly loves this land. We saw a good variety of snakes, frogs, and even a tapir swimming across the river. The trails are rustic; this is only for fit, sure footed individuals. Thank you’

Tour of a large farm of pure primary jungle, with river and fruit areas as well. A wide variety of fauna and flora can be observed, such as snakes, frogs, birds and mammals. Emílio, the guide who was with us knows a lot and shows passion for his work. Undoubtedly an experience we will not forget, thank you very much for everything!

Eric was a great guide. We saw many snakes, frogs including the red eye tree frog, cane toad, glass frog. Many spiders including a very large tarantula, wolf spiders, fishing spider. Stick bugs, praying mantis, Jesus Lizzards, King Fisher birds, blue river shrimp. We wore rubber boots provided by the tour company. You’ll walk through shallow river water. Wear pants to tuck into the boots or they will rub your legs and cause blisters. Each participant is given a bright hand held flashlight to use on the tour.
