Nikko Tosho-gu
Understand why “Don’t say ‘magnificent’ until you’ve seen Nikko” visiting the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate and nearby shrines and temple. The most renowned shrine of “the Shrines and Temples of Nikko”-a Japan’s leading world heritage, is where Ieyasu Tokugawa, the great Shogun who started the flourishing Edo Period, is enshrined. Most of the shrine complex you see today was rebuilt in 17th century. The shrine contains 55 buildings including 8 national treasures and 34 listed buildings. The highlights are sumptuous carvings lacquered and richly coloured brilliantly, which you will gaze at craftsmanship assembled from all over the country. Do not miss the symbol of peace “Sleeping Cat”, and the “Three Monkeys” with the “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil” poses!
Shinkyo Bridge
The Shinkyo Bridge (神橋, Shinkyō, "sacred bridge") stands at the entrance to Nikko's shrines and temples, and technically belongs to Futarasan Shrine. The bridge is ranked as one of Japan's three finest bridges together with Iwakuni's Kintaikyo and Saruhashi in Yamanashi Prefecture. The current Shinkyo was constructed in 1636, but a bridge of some kind had marked the same spot for much longer, although its exact origins are unclear. Until 1973, Shinkyo was off limit to the general public. It underwent extensive renovation works in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and visitors can now walk across the bridge and back for an entrance fee.

We had a wonderful day with Ahsan on our tour of Nikko. Don’t miss Nikko. It’s gorgeous; the national park, the Temple complex and the weather was just perfect. Ahsan was informative and funny. We asked many questions, which he patiently answered. We had a great day!!

Ahsan provided a great tour of Nikko. We were able to see many locations from Tosho-gu, Shinkyo Bridge, Keyon Waterfall, Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park, Kanmangafuchi Abyss and many more and even stopped for a yummy lunch! We would not have been able to see this many places and have this much time at each place if we planned this day trip ourselves. Even in the rain we had an amazing time! He is very knowledgeable and an amazing host! Amazing day!

Ahsan was a great guide. He was friendly, kind and considerate of our slower pace. Showed us all the important spots, and explained their cultural significance. He was able to pick us up from Yokahama with an additional charge, however be prepared as it is a long day from Yokahama for both you and the guide. Would not hesitate to book with him again.

Great, thorough full-day trip! This was a wonderful and comprehensive tour through the mountains near Nikko, the city of Nikko itself, and the stunning Toshogu Shrine complex. The guide provided excellent insights into the history and culture of the area, and the pacing of the day felt just right. We also got a great taste of the Japanese countryside along the way — peaceful scenery, winding mountain roads, and charming little towns. A fantastic way to experience both the natural and cultural sides of Japan in one day!

This tour gave us the chance to see beautiful places surrounded by nature—so different from what we’d been experiencing in Tokyo. Although the weather was rainy and cloudy, we made the best of it and still managed to see some stunning sights. Ahsan made it easy for us to visit many locations in one day without any stress. We stopped for a delicious lunch of udon and soba, which was perfect for warming up on a chilly day. Even though the views were a bit muted by the weather, we really appreciated the experience and Ahsan’s efforts to make the most of it. It was a peaceful, scenic day full of history and nature.
