Nikko Tosho-gu
Understand why “Don’t say ‘magnificent’ until you’ve seen Nikko” visiting the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate and nearby shrines and temple. The most renowned shrine of “the Shrines and Temples of Nikko”-a Japan’s leading world heritage, is where Ieyasu Tokugawa, the great Shogun who started the flourishing Edo Period, is enshrined. Most of the shrine complex you see today was rebuilt in 17th century. The shrine contains 55 buildings including 8 national treasures and 34 listed buildings. The highlights are sumptuous carvings lacquered and richly coloured brilliantly, which you will gaze at craftsmanship assembled from all over the country. Do not miss the symbol of peace “Sleeping Cat”, and the “Three Monkeys” with the “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil” poses!

Family had an enjoyable and relaxing day on 17 Dec 2025 with our driver Sarfraz. He communicated to us the day before to leave Tokyo early at 7am to avoid traffic jams and we ended the day at 5pm. The travel time to and fro is 2 hours each way without major traffic jam so that leaves us with 6 hours in between to do the sightseeing including lunch. This trip is suitable for those who wish to have a look at beautiful scenery outside of Tokyo. We also caught a glimpse of some snow which had already started on the mountains. Sarfraz is friendly and steady driver who takes care of customers, highly recommended.

Ali Ahmed was an absolutely exceptional tour guide for my trip to Nikko! From start to finish, he was personal, positive, and incredibly reliable. He arrived early for pick-up, thoughtfully stopped to grab to-go food and drinks for the road, and allowed me to customize the itinerary on the fly to match my interests. Ali showed me the best waterfalls, shrines, and autumn foliage, and even scoped out a delicious authentic Japanese restaurant. He went above and beyond by taking amazing photos of me at every site and standing in line for tickets while I explored. All parking, tickets, and other logistics were handled by him, making the day completely stress-free. Friendly, attentive, and professional throughout, Ali truly made my Nikko experience unforgettable. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a seamless and personalized tour!

Yes I thought the experience was great. We had a wonderful driver. His name was ASIF. If I had known that we were going to be near some little towns or villages, I would’ve liked to have explored a little bit

This excursion was booked at the last minute of our NCL cruise in Japan. Viator booking provided us an easy way to cancel and book thru on line. Best thing too is that they communicate thru WhatsApp, which is so helpful when no wifi. Our driver, Zarfraz kept us updated thru this.He came to pick us up on time and the 2 hours plus drive going to Nikko was smooth and very educational. He tried his best to answer our questions and even taught us simple Japanese words. He even played soft music to for comfort to that long drive. The amazing places we visited are worth remembering. Zarfraz with kind heart also took beautiful pictures for us as we posed and posed. Our big thanks to this person who made this trip a success!
