What makes Oboro’s tea ceremony truly special is its focus on authentic connection and sensory immersion. By minimizing visual distractions, the setting draws attention to the small but meaningful details—such as the sound of hot water being poured or the gentle aroma of freshly whisked tea. This approach creates a calm, welcoming atmosphere where guests feel comfortable asking questions or sitting in appreciative silence. The organic tea itself, prepared with time-honored techniques, underscores a deeper respect for tradition and nature. The ceremony’s flexible etiquette allows newcomers and seasoned tea enthusiasts alike to engage at their own pace, emphasizing enjoyment over perfection. Finally, the intimate environment, illuminated by handmade candles, offers a rare opportunity for guests to pause, reflect, and experience a moment of genuine mindfulness—a lasting treasure that extends well beyond the tearoom.

What To Expect

Oboro’s tea ceremony experience immerses you in a serene, candlelit setting designed to help you rediscover the art of mindful living. Upon arrival, you’re guided into a softly lit space where minimal décor and gentle sounds allow your senses to awaken. You’ll begin with a welcome tea and sweets, slowly shifting your awareness from daily routines to the present moment. As you transition to the tearoom, the host carefully cleans and prepares the utensils before whisking a rare organic green tea, served one bowl at a time. With each sip, you’re invited to notice subtle flavors, the warmth of the tea bowl in your hands, and the calming effect of the flickering candlelight. Rather than strict formality, the ceremony emphasizes shared respect and a sense of quiet wonder. The experience concludes with a small, handmade candle as a token of the tranquility you’ve gained, reminding you to carry this newfound mindfulness into your daily life.

Enjoyed learning about the history of tea in Japan and watching the process. My daughter loved the matcha tea and I had the black tea. There is a lot that goes into it. They also gave a dessert treat before we drank the tea which we enjoyed.

This tea ceremony was a great experience for us. It is over 1200 years old and showed us that being mindful and focused while enjoying tea within the company of others is an art form.

This tea ceremony was such a a lovely experience. We enjoyed the special moments and the reminder to take time to be present. The tea house was beautiful and the tea masters were so knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. The tea was delicious and we are inspired to take time for tea more often.
