Some like it hot! Located 45 kilometers (28 mi) east from Reykjavik, Hveragerdi is the charming gateway town to South Iceland that is set in a large geothermal area and is often referred to as the ‘flower village,’ because of the many greenhouses there.
Selfoss
Selfoss town has been rapidly growing for the last few years, much faster than the national average. It is within a one-hour drive of all Iceland’s major nature attractions in the south, including the Golden Circle wonders and the South Coast waterfalls and black sand beaches.

5.00We took the 14-hour Southern Coast tour in Iceland, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking—waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers, and dramatic landscapes that felt otherworldly. One of the most memorable stops was Diamond Beach, where chunks of glacial ice were scattered across the black sand, sparkling like diamonds against the shoreline. It was surreal and stunning, and we had plenty of time to take it all in, walk along the beach, and take photos—it felt like something you’d only ever see in Iceland. What really made the experience outstanding, though, was our guide, Aleksandrs. He was fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about Iceland. He shared fascinating history, and local stories throughout the long day, kept everything running smoothly, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and taken care of. Despite the length of the tour, it never felt rushed or exhausting. Aleksandrs paced the day perfectly, handled logistics seamlessly, ( plenty of bathroom breaks & food) and added humor and insight that made the hours fly by. You could tell he truly cared about giving us the best possible experience. If you’re considering a Southern Coast tour, this 14-hour trip is absolutely worth it—and if you’re lucky enough to have “Aleksandrs The Great” as your guide, you’re in for an exceptional day. Highly, recommend!

It was a long day visiting the south coast with Diamond Beach, but his flexibility made our experience stress-free and enjoyable—he tailored the itinerary so we could see all the best spots without feeling rushed. He went above and beyond by recommending great places to eat Alexander also took the time to explain the history and significance of each location we visited, making the experience both fun and educational. On top of that, he captured amazing photos of our group throughout the day, which we’ll treasure forever. 5.00It's a private tour up to seven people. Very comfortable and informative. Alex was our tour guide and he was great. Suggested places to eat and took pictures of us at each site. He told us where to stand to see the best view of each stop. Would suggest places to eat and went a bit out of the way to show us the church on the hill in Vik. Loved the whole day especially diamond beach.

5.00Our day with Alex was hands down the highlight of our entire Iceland trip! This private South Coast tour is truly the best way to see all of the region’s incredible highlights in just one day. Alex was absolutely amazing — friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly thoughtful. When I mentioned how much I wanted to see the inside of a turf house, he made an unplanned stop so we could explore one up close, which was such a special moment. Throughout the day we visited stunning waterfalls (with time to climb to the top of Skógafoss), vast lava fields, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, Vík, Diamond Beach, and the breathtaking Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Pictures simply don’t capture how beautiful those last two stops are in person! Alex made sure we had plenty of time at each location, never making us feel rushed even with November’s limited daylight. He also knew all the best spots for photos — it was like traveling with a professional photographer. He had specific shots in mind for us and captured moments we’ll treasure forever. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Alex and this tour. If you’re visiting Iceland and want to experience the South Coast in the best possible way, book this tour — it’s unforgettable!

5.00Our guild Dmitry was fantastic, We had an outstanding experience with him. He is great and attentive and able to propose alternative when weather changes. The pacing of the tour was well-balanced, with enough time for photos, questions, and rest. What stood out most was the guide’s attentiveness — they checked in with everyone regularly, ensured the group stayed comfortable, and even offered personal recommendations for food and activities after the tour. Overall, they went above and beyond to make the experience memorable.
