Pere-Lachaise Cemetery
Your rendez-vous with Paris’ famous dead begins in the morning at Alexandre Dumas metro station. Meet your english-speaking guide and stroll into Père Lachaise Cemetery, the city’s most visited graveyard. Spanning 110 acres (44 hectares), this cemetery houses hundreds of thousands of the city’s famous and infamous dead in tombs of varying extravagance. Hear about some of the site’s famous artists, musicians and writers that rest here such as Edith Piaf, Molière, Chopin, Proust, Delacroix, Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde. Wander through the labyrinth of graves and along stony paths to visit tombs accented in eccentricity and distinction. As you experience the haunting magnificence of the cemetery, you’ll learn tragic histories of lovers like Heloïse and Abelard – united in a single tomb in the 1817 after centuries apart – and forward-thinking women like writers Gertrude Stein and Collette. Your 2-hour tour concludes at Porte du Rèpos near the Philippe Auguste metro stop.

We loved our tour guide Nelly! She was very informative and you can tell it is her passion! The best part was, she didn’t just take us to the famous graves you expect to see, but also to some with some interesting stories that she has learned through her work outside the cemetery. Highly recommend!

Although we did't arrive the 15 mins before the start time due to the traffic, we were there 5 mins before but no one there to meet us. We waited until 15 mins after the start time. We decided to walk and when we arrived at the cemetery we found another person who was in our group who had also been waiting well before the start time so we were not the only ones. We ended up completing the tour on our own which, in the end was a better experience as we got to see more and learnt more by doing it at our own pace. When we contacted the support team we were told the rest of our group had been checked in and reminded that it is our responsibility to be on time (which we were) when reiterated we arrived before the start time the same message was sent and no further correspondence.

The tour guide never showed! There was a small group of us waiting for over 40 minutes and no one showed up. The tour company attempted to contact the guide, but never connected. No word from them about an apology or a refund. Go elsewhere!

We left early on the tour, the history aspect of it jumped around and found it hard to understand and give context to the tour. Got unlucky with some surrounding noise which wasn’t the guides fault but could have moved position earlier. No issues with the guide but wasn’t the most interesting of tours and I love my history, so found it more enjoyable walking around by ourselves and using google.

Very worthwhile tour for the price. The cemetery in autumn was enchanting. Riti was an excellent guide. I especially enjoyed the grave of Abelard and Heloise.

This was 2 hours very well spent! Sophia guided us through with interesting stories about famous graves. She’s an excellent guide! The cemetery is very peaceful and quite beautiful. Walking through with the autumn leaves falling was quite special and a lovely break from the crowds of other Paris attractions.
