Tokyo Skytree

At 634 meters tall, it is the tallest free-standing structure in Japan and became the second in World after Burj Khalifa.

Asakusa

Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.

Ueno Park

Main attraction is Ueno Zoo, which was opened as the first zoo in Japan in 1882. Currently, about 400 species of animals, including rare animals such as Sumatra tiger, are bred. The number of admissions is the best in Japan. There are many exhibits on the site, including the Giant Panda Building and Japanese wild birds and animals such as sika deer and Japanese serow deer, the Japanese animal section, and the forest where the gorilla tigers live. 

Meiji Jingu Shrine

Meiji Shinto Shrine was dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken. It is located in a forest that covers an area of 70 hectares (170 acres). This area is covered by an evergreen forest that consists of 120,000 trees of 365 different species, which were donated by people from all parts of Japan when the shrine was established. The forest is visited by many as a recreation and relaxation area in the center of Tokyo.

Shibuya Crossing

The Shibuya Scramble Crossing is an intersection of 10 lanes located right outside JR Shibuya Station. When the traffic light turns green, 1,000 to 2,000 people cross the intersection at once, using five pedestrian crossings. It's said to be the busiest intersection in the world and is an iconic landmark symbolizing Shibuya.

Hachiko

Take some pictures at the statue of Hachiko, the most loyal dog in Japan. It commemorates Hachi's unwavering loyalty to his owner, Professor Hidesaburo Ueno, whom he would meet at the station every day. Even after Professor Ueno's death, Hachi continued to wait for him at the station for nearly a decade.

Edo-Tokyo Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館, Edo Tōkyō Hakubutsukan) offers permanent exhibition vividly illustrates the past of Tokyo (known as Edo until 1869) through its exhibits and covers many features of the capital from the Edo Period to relatively recent decades.

Edo Castle Stone-walled Moat

Edo Castle was the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1867. It was the center of political power in Japan during the Edo period. The castle grounds were vast, with the site expanding over time to cover an area that included parts of modern-day Tokyo.

Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney theme park to open outside the United States and the complex is the only Disney resort in the world not owned or operated by Disney Experiences in any capacity. It consists of Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, and Ikspiari, which is a variation of the Downtown Disney and Disney Springs shopping, dining, and entertainment areas found at the Disney resorts in Anaheim and Lake Buena Vista respectively. It also contains Bon Voyage!, a large Disney goods specialty shop.

Odaiba Seaside Garden

Odaiba Seaside Park is a standout spot in Tokyo, offering a mix of relaxation and excitement. Tsukiji Fish Market

Tsukiji fish market used to prosper between 1935 to 1983 as the largest wholesale fish market in Japan. It closed down in 2018 and moved to Toyosu but the historical land of Tsukiji is still appreciated by the locals. There are still many shops in this old market which are busy with tourists looking forward to eating the delicious seafood.

Lake Ashinoko

Ashinoko, a volcanic lake in the central part of Honshu Island, is one of the main attractions of the Hakone area. Formed in the mountains, the lake attracts both Japanese and tourists from other countries, and the abundance of all kinds of fish attracts fishermen. It is 20 kilometers in diameter. 

Hakone Sightseeing Cruise Motohakone-Ko Pier

At Lake Ashi, a serene lake surrounded by mountains, a pirate ship cruise runs between the three ports of Hakonemachi-ko, Motohakone-ko and Togendai-ko. During the cruise, there will be a spot where the passengers can view Mt. Fuji, the red torii gate of Hakone Shrine and the lake all at once, so have your cameras ready.

Hakone Ropeway

The observation platform offers breathtaking views of ‘Owakudani’, Hakone’s most famous tourist spot. Desolate mountainside covered by plumes of smoke produce a distinct scene so fitting the area’s former name of Hell Valley. Now, the Hakone Ropeway rising above Owakudani. There are also many scenic spots to be seen from the ropeway. Traveling from Sounzan to Owakudani, passengers can see the bottom of the valley below, and, when on route to Togendai, they can enjoy views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi.

Owaku-dani Valley

Ōwakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It was created around 3,000 years ago, as a result of the explosion of the Hakone volcano. It is a popular tourist site for its scenic views, volcanic activity, and kuro-tamago (黒卵, lit. "black egg") — a local variety of hard-boiled eggs that uses the hot springs in their preparation. White smoke and smell of Sulphur drift around the stone valley and travelers can feel the volcanic activity.

The Hakone Open-Air Museum

The Hakone Open-Air Museum is the first open-air art museum in Japan, built in Hakone with the aim of harmonizing nature and art. Art works are placed everywhere on the vast site of about 70,000 square meters, surrounded by beautiful trees, grass, and moutains. It can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages, from families with children to adults traveling alone.

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is an iconic volcano and the highest point in the country. Its majestic shape and cultural significance make it a popular pilgrimage site and natural wonder. Recommended activities include riding the ropeway up Mt. Kachi Kachi, taking a cruise on Lake Kawaguchi or diving to Mt. Fuji 5th Station to get perfect panoramic views of the mountain. Other popular activities include walking to Arakura Fuji Sengen-jinja Shrine and its pagoda in Arakurayama Sengen Park, and exploring the small village of Oshino Hakkai and its hot springs.

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine

Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine enshrines the deity Mount Fuji, and it is located amidst a dense old-growth forest, making it one of the largest forest shrines in Japan. The long, atmospheric approach to the main shrine is lined with mossy stone lanterns and shaded by tall cedar trees. Of note on the shrine grounds are four trees believed to be approximately 1,000 years old, with a girth of 23 meters.

Arakurayama Sengen Park

Lake Kawaguchiko

It is the most famous among the five lakes surrounding Mount Fuji, including Lake Yamanaka, which offer spectacular views of the volcano. Travelers can capture that views from Kachi Kachi ropeway or cruise at the lake, where can enjoy other boat cruises, fishing, hot springs, and the surrounding beautiful sceneries. Oishi Park located on the shores of Lake Kawaguchi, is known for its seasonal flower gardens that offers stunning views of Mount Fuji as well.

Mt. Fuji 5th Station

Oshino Hakkai

Sumiyoshi Taisha has stood watch over Osaka Bay for almost 2,000 years. Founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism, it displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland. Since its founding, Oshino Hakkai, or the Eight Seas of Oshino, are a set of eight ponds located in the Fuji Five Lakes area, on the site of a former sixth lake that dried out several centuries ago. The eight ponds are fed by snowmelt from the slopes of Mount Fuji that filters down the mountain through porous layers of volcanic rock over a period of several decades. This makes the mineral-rich pond waters remarkably clear and pristine that can even reflect the view of Mt. Fuji.

Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nemba

Iyashi no Sato (いやしの里) stands on the site of a former farming village on the western shores of Lake Saiko, which was destroyed by a landslide during a typhoon in 1966. However, forty years later the village's traditional thatched roofed houses were reconstructed and reopened as an open air museum and traditional craft village where people can learn about the culture and try out and purchase different local handicrafts. The village is now made up of more than twenty houses that have been converted into shops, restaurants, museums and galleries. Each of the shops specializes in a traditional craft such as pottery, incense or weaving. Some of the handicraft shops, provide hands-on workshops for visitors, such as making incense bags or an owl figurine.

Nikko Tosho-gu

A magnificent memorial to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which ruled Japan for over 250 years until 1868. Ieyasu is enshrined at Toshogu as the deity Tosho Daigongen, "Great Deity of the East Shining Light". Countless wood carvings and large amounts of gold leaf were used to decorate the buildings in a way not seen elsewhere in Japan, where simplicity has been traditionally stressed in shrine architecture.

Kegon Falls

Kegon Waterfall is the most famous of Nikko’s 48 waterfall, where the water from Lake Chuzenji falls 97 metres straight down to the rocks below creating a dynamic and artistic work of nature. 75-meter-high, two-tiered Kirifuri Falls flow into the Kirifuri River, splashing off rocks on the way down to a fine mist (kiri).

Lake Chuzenji

Framed by 25 kilometres of incredible nature, the area around the lake used to be a popular summer resort for foreigners in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, where the villas of French and Belgian embassies can still be spotted. The views from the lake are spectacular, particularly when the cherry blossoms or azaleas are blooming or when the autumn leaves are turning.

Nikko Botanical Garden

It is spacious and quiet with a substantial network of paths that allows for pleasant walks and the viewing of the various labeled trees, plants and shrubs.

Shinkyo Bridge

At 28 meters long and nearly eight meters wide, the beautiful, vermilion-lacquered Shinkyo Bridge sits at the entrance to the Nikko mountains. According to legend, Buddhist monk Shodo, the first head priest of Nikko, asked the mountain deities for help crossing the Daiya River, at which point two snakes appeared and transformed into a bridge. The bridge belongs to Nikko Futarasan-jinja Shrine and was designated a World Heritage site in 1999.

Located near the Daiya River, Kanmangafuchi Abyss is a small gorge created by an eruption from Mt. Nantai around 7,000 years ago. From the riverside path, you can see several small statues of jizo, a bodhisattva said to protect children, women and travelers. There are around 70 jizo, but legend holds that the number changes each time you try to count them.

Irohazaka Route

Irohazaka (いろは坂, "Iroha Slope") is a pair of winding roads that connect the lower elevations near Nikko city to the higher elevations of the mountainous Okunikko and lake Chezenji region.

Akechidaira Observation Area

It takes around 3 minutes to get to riding the ropeway from Akechidaira to a perfect viewing spot with a sweeping panoramic view of the magnificent mountains that surround spots such as Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Waterfall, and Irohazaka winding route. The autumn fallen leaves are popular, but the beautiful greenery in summer is also a highlight! Be sure to ride the ropeway to enjoy the Akechidaira Observation Deck, where you can get a 360 degree feel for the scenery in each season!
