Amazing tour! Our guide Simon picked us up directly at our hotel and took us about 30 minutes outside of Reykjavik to get outside of the light pollution. Along the way, he told us about why we have the Northern Lights and what needs to happen to see them. When we turned off the main road, I saw a bunch of vans and buses and I thought, "Wait a minute - this is a private tour and we're supposed to be avoiding the crowds!" But then we passed all of them right up and drove another 10 minutes or so into some public lands only accessible by super jeep. When we arrived, it took only a few minutes before the Northern Lights came out! After a while, Simon served us hot chocolate and jagermeister as well as a snack. The he took us to another, higher point and we waited. This time it took about 10-15 minutes before we saw anything, but it was spectacular! Simon said it was the best he'd seen all season. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing adventure! Our party consisted of a teenager, a couple in their 40s and an older lady. To make sure everyone would be comfortable and that we would have the option to return earlier if needed or make any stops, I chose to pay a bit more and book this trip for the northern lights instead of the regular bus tours. Gosh, was it worth it!!! Not because we had any reason to leave early, but because we went places we'd never otherwise gone. My niece was so excited over the jeep alone, that the auroras were just the cherry on top. Our guide Simon was so nice, service minded and entertained us all. Highly recommend!!!

Absolutely amazing experience. Thor did a great job of identifying the correct conditions and locations to see the lights and Mother Nature did not disappoint

The tour was amazing. Definitely worth the upgrade—it was just us with our guide, Aron, in a souped-up Land Cruiser. Super comfortable, and we got out into areas where the larger and midsize tour buses couldn’t. Despite not perfect conditions we did see the Northern Lights! It was incredible. Aron was so friendly and we really enjoyed chatting with him for the 3-hour tour. He texted us to let us know when he’d be at the bus stop to pick us up, and took some great pictures and sent them to us which was much appreciated! We had a short trip to Iceland so this was a great way to learn a lot about the Icelandic people and culture while also seeing one of the marvels of the world. So glad we did this excursion and I’d recommend it to anyone.

It is impossible to put into words the incredible experience we had with Aron. We had been in Iceland for 5 nights already with no luck seeing the lights. On night 6 we took this tour and everything came together for success! There was certainly some luck involved, but Aron was calm, patient, knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely excited to see the lights with us. It was beyond stunning. He had the ideal location for clear skies without distracting lights. I would repeat this experience in a heartbeat!

We were collected from our lodgings by Agust, our guide for the night, in a monster Ford F350 - I mention this as it's a huge truck and attracts a lot of [positive] attention wherever it is, it feels proper. As we headed out of Reykjavik Agust explained what where we were going and what we would needed to look out for - so we got to join in on the Norther Lights finding experience - navigating to a cloud free spot, where we could see the stars. The jeep came into its own when we arrived at a clear spot, heading down an old, snow covered road, that would have been missed or impassible for those that don't know the area or aren't in the right hardware. We set up in an off the track spot and pointed North. Advice here is wrap up warm! You can wait in the car for the Norther Lights to appear, but it somehow felt more authentic standing in the snow, talking nonsense and drinking the hot chocolate that was provided for us. As Agust told us, optimism and patience wins out, and shortly after midnight our group, in the middle of nowhere, caught its first glimpse of the Aurora Borealis, a show which lasted over an hour - the photo below is one of many that was sent by Activity Iceland, if you want to take your own, a camera with ISO and shutter speed control is needed, and probably a tripod too. The Activity Iceland Northern Light with Agust was a great experience, a superb end to our Iceland trip, and something I'd highly recommend - just remember the optimism and patience. And warm clothes. * We were originally booked on the snowmobile Northern Lights Tour, but were swapped when the conditions were too dangerous for snowmobiling.

On an evening when virtually all tour groups cancelled their Northern Lights trips due to weather, Harpa and Gisli at Activity Iceland analyzed the weather patterns and potential routes and knowing we had limited time to hunt the lights (with weather forecast for subsequent two days clearly being even worse!) decided to give it a try. Gisli was determined as guide to find them for us. After a couple of attempts we settled into a spot that he felt would eventually open up to view the lights. Sure enough, we eventually had clear views of the stars and the lights appeared! He took many wonderful pictures of us with the lights and it was the highlight of our trip to Iceland!
