Kerid Crater
Kerið is a volcanic crater located in the southern part of Iceland. It is approximately 55 meters deep, 170 meters wide, and 270 meters across. The crater was formed around 3,000 years ago during a volcanic eruption. The walls of the Kerið crater are made up of red volcanic rocks and are covered in green moss and vegetation. In the middle of the crater, there is a lake with blue-green water that is believed to be about 7-14 meters deep. Kerið is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Visitors can climb down to the crater's lake to take a closer look at the unique geological formations, and during the winter months, the crater is often covered in snow, creating a scenic winter wonderland.

We have traveled extensively around the world in the last seven decades. This experience was nothing less than remarkable. Our guide Thor was intergetic, knowledgeable, funny and helpful. We saw the attractions most tourist see, and several that they never see. We experienced geysers, volcanic craters, waterfalls, lava fields and lands were steam was rising from the. We ate in one restaurant along side cows, and then another restaurant inside a tomato greenhouse that provides 80% of the tomatoes to Iceland If you have the time and interest, add this to your bucket list. I promise you will not regret it.
