We had an unforgettable memory with our samurai experience. What an amazing experience to learn from Sensei Yushin! He along with Jordan and Osayo were passionate about preserving the spirit and traditions of the samurai. They provided real training with basic katana usage and techniques. The entire experience was extremely well-organized and respectful of the culture it represents. It wasn’t just a tourist activity — it felt like a deep dive into a powerful part of Japan’s heritage. The instructors also spoke excellent English, making it accessible for international visitors. If you're visiting Kyoto and want to do more than just sightsee, I highly recommend booking this samurai experience. It’s an engaging, hands-on way to connect with Japan’s warrior past — and you’ll walk away with amazing memories (and great photos).

Highly recommend this experience. The training takes place in an actual dojo with practitioners of iaido. We were fitted with training attire and issued a training katana (sword) and given safety instructions. Yushin-sensei then taught us a basic kata (with the assistance of Jordan-san who helped bridge language barrier). The instructors were very patient and supportive. We were able to observe a few kata demonstrations by sensei displaying the agility and precision of this art. It left is in awe. We were then given the opportunity to cut a tatami mat with a real 250 year old katana There great emphasis on safety protocols and adhering to sensei’s instructions to ensure the safety of all participants. We were given the opportunity to take photos and videos of us cutting the mat! Highly recommended!

Taught by a real sensei, this class was really authentic, fun and very educational. I'm glad we booked this instead of a less expensive but less authentic option. The instructors are very passionate about the experience and were nice to deal with. Highly recommended.

Active engagement in the samurai katana movements that resulted in actual testing your ability to slash thru rolled up mats. Plus great training in use of the swords!!!

This class was both enlightening and informative. We were able to cut the bamboo mats after our class and my wife and I are both almost 70 years old
