What a wonderful day in the rainforest! We saw three sloths--one so close we could have touched it. We also saw toucans, frogs, and a very cool snake. The coffee, chocolate, and lunch were delicious. Highly recommend this tour and all of the staff.

Carlos, a driver, and Gino (guide), were excellent. We enjoyed our experience with both and learned a lot about the country, culture, and nature. We got to get within a couple of feet of a young sloth, plus saw many other wild creatures, swam in a crystal blue river and had a delicious lunch. Was a wonderful experience!

  • True animal lovers, beware. Not natural, a total set up

I was so excited to book this trip with my mum. After carefully looking at reviews and seeing all the 5* reviews, I was confident we would be in for a great trip, with animal welfare prioritied.. I was sadly wrong. What I missed in my review research before booking, is the EXACT same photos of the animals from other reviews. Not a conscience.. We did not visit a waterfall, instead a river. Our tour guide explained the waterfall was dirty due to rain, so suggested we visit a river instead. It was pretty, so no issue there. Then, we were taken to ‘wildlife’ tour.. nothing wild about it. The guides looked the part in their camo, ready to guide us around a secluded ‘garden’. The area was small. All around the closed in ‘garden’ was nothing - a field to the left, a kitchen to the right and a road in front. It was man-made, ‘fit for purpose’. The paths had been gravelled. We were walked around a small set ‘trail’ to see the exact same animals - two vipers and two frogs. Each encounter our young guide ‘found’ the animal within 10 seconds. Bear in mind - these animals are masters of disguises in the wild (emphasis on them not being wild..). At one point, it was almost comical - the guide walked straight past a tree, then after 5-10 seconds, walked back and found/ grabbed a poisonous little frog. Almost like she just remember ‘ah, I need to go back because we placed the front on that tree’. If you’ve ever done a true jungle trek, you know it takes a long time to spot wildlife. Not easy unless they’ve been placed there for your viewing ‘pleasure’. The snakes did not move at all.. despite their resting branch being pulled and dozens of people gawking at them - were they sedated? Then come the sloths. We were shown two high up in trees, resting. Then comes the third.. poor thing. Approximately 8 months old. I assume placed on a convenient branch for everyone to see. The guides acting was terrible ‘oh look, how lucky for you all, I’ve found one close up’.. my heart sung and sank at the same time. Such a beautiful animal that was so clearly being used for money. Some kids on the trip screamed in excitement. One boy was adamant to touch. The guide said ‘well, we’re not supposed to’ and another tourist said ‘no, that’s illegal’.. i looked at my mum in disbelief as the guide then said ‘but you can, we won’t tell! They can bite/ scratch, so touch him on his back like this’, and the boy did.. awful. The lunch was fine - rice, beans and some meat. Salad had a hair in it. The coffee and chocolate talk was very interesting - given coffee to try which was delicious. But by then, I was sad.. I knew my dollars had helped to fund a cruel trade. As an animal lover, I feel upset and conned. Shame on you.. Please - if you don’t support zoos and fake ‘sanctuary’s’ then do not go. The drive through that area was littered with identical signs - ‘sloth tours’ with pictures of the same animals. Take a self paced hike in the jungle and cross your fingers that Mother Nature blesses you with a true wild sighting instead. Viator - please stop these unethical tours and others being conned. Thank you.
