I usually escape winter by going somewhere warm and lying on a beach. I decided to try the opposite and booked this Northern Lights tour in Tromsø. I was worried about the cold, but the thermal suits and warm vehicle made a big difference. The guide kept opening the doors to show us different views over the Arctic Sea, then closing them quickly so we did not get cold. When the aurora finally appeared, I realised I did not miss palm trees at all. It was a completely different, deeper kind of beauty. most recommend for sure .

I have done many shore excursions over the years, usually museums and city tours. This one was completely different and exactly what I needed . Instead of staying close to the port, we drove far into the fjords in the dark, just eight of us and the guide. He helped us into thermal suits, reminded us about clothing for the photos, and stopped at restrooms on the way. The mix of campfire, quiet woods, and the aurora above made it feel like a true adventure, not just another stop on the cruise. i was returned to the Cruise after midnight very easy to manage. Thank you all at Alshmal.

I tried a Northern Lights tour in Iceland a few years ago that was crowded and disappointing. I almost skipped trying again, but this one in Tromsø changed my mind. Only a small group in a comfortable van, no big buses. Our guide adjusted the route several times to dodge clouds, Driving Safely, talking us through what he was seeing on the forecast. We warmed our hands on hot chocolate and waited by a lake. When the lights finally appeared, it felt like we had truly earned it this time. what else to recommend but this amazing Night In Tromso, will be back again for sure.

have seen sunsets on safari in Kenya and thought nothing could beat that feeling. This Northern Lights excursion came very close. We drove out of Tromsø into deep, quiet valleys with snow banks higher than I am. Our guide stopped to grill corn over a fire and gave us herbal tea while he watched the sky. The first green arc appeared almost shy, then suddenly the whole sky seemed to move. It had the same wild, honest beauty as watching animals in the savanna, just much colder. Highly Recommend.

I have spent most of my 50s doing city breaks in places like Rome and Paris. Tromsø was my first “nature” stop, and this tour made me wonder why I waited so long. Pickup from the hotel was right on time, and the group was small, just a handful of us. The guide knew lots about the Arctic and helped us stay warm hot drinks. When the sky finally cleared the aurora above the fjords, it felt more meaningful than any famous monument I have seen.

longer Baltic and Norway trip with my sister. This excursion in Tromsø ended up being the highlight. Instead of staying near the port, we joined this small group Northern Lights chase. Our guide spoke excellent English and kept us updated on the aurora chances. We stopped at public restrooms on the way, which I appreciated at my age, then drove deeper into the countryside. Standing in a thermal suit beside the Arctic Sea with green lights above us is a memory I will keep long after I forget which ship we were on.

Most of my holidays in my fifties have been warm cruises in the Mediterranean, so this Arctic night was a big change. I loved how easy everything was. The pickup from the ship was smooth, the van warm, and the guide so patient with us. He drove us away from the city lights to a quiet spot by the sea, handed out snacks and hot tea, and waited for a hole in the clouds. When the Northern Lights appeared, moving slowly over the fjord, I forgot all about sun and beaches. Completely worth the cold.

I am 62 and thought our Alaska cruise had given me all the “northern” memories I needed, but this Northern Lights excursion in Tromsø topped it. We were picked up right at the cruise port and driven into the dark fjords in a small group, not a bus crowd. Our guide kept checking the sky, poured hot chocolate, and helped us into proper thermal suits. When the aurora finally spread over the mountains, it felt more intimate and powerful than anything I saw from a ship deck.

At 59, I’ve seen many beautiful places, but watching the Northern Lights above the fjords of Tromsø felt different calm, wild, and real. Our guide worked so hard chasing clear skies and never gave up, snacks and hot drinks kept us happy, and the photos turned out stunning.
