Vatican Museums
Founded by Pope Julius II in the early 16th century and enlarged by successive pontiffs, the Vatican Museums boast one of the world's greatest art collections. Exhibits, which are displayed along about 7km of halls and corridors, range from Egyptian mummies and Etruscan bronzes to ancient busts, old masters and modern paintings. Highlights include the spectacular collection of classical statuary in the Museo Pio-Clementino, a suite of rooms frescoed by Raphael, and the Michelangelo-painted Sistine Chapel.
Sistine Chapel
Home to two of the world’s most famous works of art – Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes and his Giudizio Universale (Last Judgment) – the Sistine Chapel is the one part of the Vatican Museums that everyone wants to see, and on a busy day you could find yourself sharing it with up to 2000 people. Michelangelo's ceiling design, which is best viewed from the chapel’s main entrance in the far east wall, covers the entire 800-sq-m surface. At the end of the tour only if the passage to the Basilica (Scala Regia) is open the guide will take the group to the Basilica.

Only way to visit the Vatican is with knowledgeable guide, never on your own with all the people and all the rooms, lines etc.

Our guide is an art professor and it showed! She was super knowledgeable but also friendly and engaging. We were three generations of family members and she managed to hold everyone’s attention throughout the entire tour, some of us had visited many times before and some were first timers.

Our tour guide was very prompt and was very knowledgeable about the Vatican museum. We were a large group with small children (ages 2, 6, and 11) and Silvio was able to be flexible and adjust to cater to our families needs.

What a fantastic experience!! Loved the small group size, the early entry, and the vast amount of knowledge of our guide. Enthusiasm throughout the entire tour was amazing knowing the number of tours handled every week. Highly recommend! 5 stars for sure! Perfect 10!

Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the Vatican. Our group went right into the line on time. The use of the ear buds made it easy to understand & hear the guide as we traveled from place to place. The one criticism is she left us outside of the basilica and did not accompany us in. It was my understanding that the museum, Sistine Chapel and the Basilica were all guided. This was a great disappointment as there is so much there to tour and learn about.
