5.00The palace and its paintings are so much, and it will be so crowded. A guide will keep you focused on the history and the most important art, otherwise you’ll just be shuffling glazed-eyed thru the crowds.

2.00Our guide, Lucien, was exceptionally knowledgeable and did a fabulous job tying together history of the royal family, the construction and function of Versailles. This was my third visit and I found him to be the best guide I’ve had there. Unfortunately, I paid for a full day private tour with driver which Viator confirmed as 8 to 4. However, they told our guide that our tour was a half day (8 to 1). Very disappointing! The situation has yet to be resolved, but I have proof.

5.00It is worth the whole day to see other sites around Versailles. Trianon and the Petit Trianon and the Hamlet are great.
