Walk the grounds where lives were bound to the brutal system of plantation slavery. Explore preserved cabins, memorials, and hear firsthand narratives through a self-guided audio tour, allowing for personal reflection. After a lunch break in New Orleans, continue with the Soul of New Orleans city tour, where we dive deep into the distinct differences between plantation slavery and urban slavery. Explore the various exhibits that focus on the lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the Whitney Plantation. These exhibits include original buildings, slave cabins, memorials, and artwork that aim to convey the harsh realities of slavery. Take a moment to visit the Wall of Honor, which displays the names of more than 350 enslaved individuals who lived on the plantation. This tribute helps personalize their stories and allows visitors to reflect on the human impact of slavery. The combo Tour was a good experience. On the drive to the Whitney Plantation, the The Tour Guide was knowledgeable and pointed out other points of interest. During the Soul of New Orleans City Tour, it was a delight to visit Project Be and to view the aftermath of Katrina.

  • This tour made for a great day and a great trip!

I booked the 2nd Line Tour to the Whitney Plantation and the NOLA city culture tour. This was the best tour I have ever been on! Dennis, the owner, is so knowledgeable and is a great teacher! He had video and pictures for us to see on the bus. There were so many things that I learned as a kid that he tied together about slavery and Louisiana history. Please if you ever head to NOLA – this is the tour that you want to do. It was fun and so rich with information and not boring at all! Along with learning more about the damage done after Hurricane Katrina, we learned about voodoo culture, the North Side Skull and Bone Gang, “Baby dolling,” and how 2nd line originated. I wish I had known to stick around for 2nd line Sunday – but maybe next trip. We also learned how the Haitian Revolution is tied to the Louisiana Purchase! I hadn’t even thought about the Louisiana Purchase since the 4th grade. This tour made me want to understand and learn soooo much more!

This is a one of a kind experience that tells the true history of Lousiana and New Orleans with African, Haiti, Creole, French, and other European cultures all blended into the rich culture of New Orleans. This was a cultural eye-opener. Dennis is a knowledgeable, welcoming tour educator and guide. We learned so much from him. This tour was excellent.

Chris took us out to Whitney plantation and got us set up with the self guided tour. We had just under 2 hours which felt a tad rushed to go through something that was so important and could be emotional. The plantation/museum does an excellent job of sharing what life was like and explaining how/why the slave trade started. The number of lives lived and lost is staggering. Very well done. Dennis took us on the city culture tour...I wish I had taken notes! So much shared and such wonderful insights about life in New Orleans, its beginnings, struggles, and amazing culture. We could have handled a whole day with Dennis! For this part of the day we had heavy rain which, if you have seen rain in NO, you know the streets start to fill. We happened to be in the Lower 9th Ward talking about Katrina (why, effects, lasting effects today) at the time so the experience was brought home a little more.

This was a wonderful tour. The combination tour consisted of two drivers and both were exceptional - knowledge and courteous. The sprinters were very comfortable and the small group size allowed for plenty of opportunities to ask questions. I only wish we would have a guided tour of the plantation. However, the headphones worked well.

Our tour guide was Jay. He arranged the visit to the Whitney Plantation, which is the only plantation tour that focuses exclusively on the experience of those enslaved. This was an audio-self guided experience and it was superbly well done. We could have easily spent more than the morning there. While difficult to hear, see and learn about the lives of those enslaved individuals who built, toiled, lived and we’re at the will of the plantation owner, it should be a must for anyone to learn about these experiences. We highly recommend taking the hours drive out to Whitney to experience this unique tour. Jay was also our tour guide on the Cultural City experience. This was another awesome experience. Jay is very passionate and extremely knowledgeable about the African American experiences, past and present in NO. Again, some of the history is difficult to hear about, but absolutely a necessary knowledge for all. Take these tours! You will not be disappointed.

Jay was an amazing guide. The second half of the tour was all him and couldn’t have been better. It’s important to learn about NOLA from a New Orleanian. We learned so much. The first half at The Whitney Plantation was equally as powerful but different as it was self guided. The only plantation we’d even consider visiting. If you’re looking for real, honest and informative this is the tour.

Whitney plantation was humbling. Great experience. However I wish they would give the option of tour companies to get a person for tour rather than a voice recorder. The Multi cultural tour guide Jeremy was phenomenal. He was very informative and took us to places like the ninth ward and showed us where the levee wall broke from Katrina. Also we saw the McDonogh No. 19 where the three girls desegregated Elementary schools. My husband and I learned a lot from Jeremy regarding New Orleans history and culture. We would highly recommend.
