• Awesome, well paced full day tour

  Our guide was Vega for the day, and we could have not been luckier with him! He made the tour smooth! We started with Borobodur, and we did not have to stand in line at all, caught the 8:30 guided tour! It was breathtaking! Then thr Jeep tour and finally the Prambanan complex! Between activities we had plenty of time to chill, and Vega told us stories about everyday life in Yogya! We had a blast! We expected a lot from the UNESCO wonders, but this tour made it even better!

• Temples and volcano

  The tour guide was really good,. Perfect English and very friendly and knowledgeable guy. We visited the temples and had a Jeep ride to the volcano. It was a really good experience, but be warned. It’s a very long day to fit in two temple sites plus the jeep ride to the volcano. The plus was the guide did a great job. The minus is communication with Viator. The voucher said at 7:30 AM pick up. The guide was told 8 AM pick up so there was confusion there. It turns out the temple does not open till 9 AM so there would be no point in leaving at 7:30 AM . When the guide did not show up at 7:30 AM I tried to contact Viator , but there really is absolutely no way to get a hold of them. There’s no phone number on the voucher and the Viator help section Does not have a link to either call. Email or text them. This would be a real problem had there to been a significant issue. The hotel front desk called the tour operator and we learned that he was instructed to pickup 30 minutes later than the Viator voucher specified.

  Overall we had a great day and Yusron, our driver, was very nice. However there are some things I wish went differently. Firstly and most upsetting - the Viator website explicitly said we could buy temple tickets for Borobudur on the spot. This was not true. Tickets needed to be purchased a month in advance. So while we were able to explore the temple grounds we could not climb to the top. Secondly, our driver was not a tour guide and did not make it clear when and how to acquire a tour guide at Borobudur. Fortunately there were informative plaques around the temple but it was definitely a bummer not to be able to ask any questions. After Borobudur we clarified we wanted a guide for prambanan and then our driver arranged this for us for an out of pocket cost. The Prambanan guide we were paired with was excellent and well worth the cost. Our driver also took us to the chicken church which was not part of the scheduled tour, but was a great experience and only a 6minute drive from Borobudur. The jeep tour of Merapi was great! Overall would recommend just wish there was more clarity about temple tickets on the website and little bit more structure and guidance from the driver.

  We would definitely recommend this tour as we had a great day exploring Borobudur, Prambanan and Mount Merapi. Thoriq was our driver/guide for the day and he was very professional, punctual and we enjoyed chatting with him about Javanese lifestyle. He made sure we had enough time at each stop. We would definitely recommend taking this tour to see all these amazing sites!
