Lang Son
“Are you ready to start a fabulous adventure tour Vietnam ? Our tour guide will pick you up by mini van at your hotel in Hanoi old quarter or Mr Linh's Adventures office around 7:30 - 8:00am, transferring you to Lang Son on a scenic 3-hour drive toward the Chinese border. Upon arrival, we will visit Mạc Citadel, a 16th-century fortress built by the Mạc Dynasty as a defensive outpost against the Lê-Trịnh forces. Although partially in ruins today, the citadel stands as a testament to Vietnam’s turbulent feudal history. You will have time to explore its stone walls, learn about its strategic military role, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding region.
Quang Uyen
After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in Đồng Đăng, we continue to Đông Khê, an important historical site where the Battle of Đông Khê (1950) took place during the First Indochina War. This battle marked a significant victory for the Viet Minh against French colonial forces, setting the stage for further independence struggles. As you explore the site, you will gain deeper insights into Vietnam’s revolutionary history. In the evening, we will travel to a traditional Nùng ethnic homestay, where you will enjoy a home-cooked dinner and a restful overnight stay, immersing yourself in the local culture and way of life. Highlights and activities: Mac citadel, Dong Khe battle site, ethnic villages, and a 3-5km walk”

Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls
After enjoying breakfast at the homestay, you will depart for Trung Khanh which lies right on the border with China. Here you will have another chance to meet and interact with the local Nung people living in the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village famous for its traditional blacksmithing. The farming tools made here are an integral part of the lifestyle which is evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields. Nestled amongst these amazing landscapes is the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall which spans over 300 meters, split half and half between Vietnam and China. You’ll get some time here to simply take in the amazing atmosphere surrounding the falls, which presents an excellent opportunity for some fantastic photography. Once you’ve finished at the falls, it’s time to head over to Nguom Ngao Cave, for a very different, but no less impressive natural wonder. The cave stretches for 2,144 meters underground and is brimming with incredible stalactites and stalagmites.
Ba Be
You will then return to Cao Bang town and head down the “snake pass” to Ba Be Lake, where you will stay overnight in a homestay constructed in traditional Tay fashion and owned and operated by a local Tay family. Here you can relax and unwind from the day and enjoy a delicious and authentic home cooked meal. Highlights and activities: Ban Gioc waterfall, Nguom Ngao cave, Ba Be National Park, ethnic villages Rounding out the day, you will then travel to Quang Uyen where you will have dinner and stay overnight at Nung’s house.

Ba Be
After breakfast, you will board a boat to cross the lake to the north shore. From here you will start a hike in the rainforest of the central area of the Ba Be National Park. Along the shores of the lake, you will reach a prehistoric cave dating back 500 million years, hidden in an ancient forest composed of rare and hard wood trees, as strong as steel. A little further, a fire station allows to observe the birds.
Ba Be National Park
Resume your hiking to reach the An Ma temple (a sacred temple of the Tay people venerating the snake god and military general of the Mac dynasty). It is now time to choose how to spend your time on the boat: relax and admire the landscape or take a dip in the fresh waters of the lake? Anyway, enjoy the scenery with its beautiful karst formations lined with jungle. Note: visitors who do not wish to participate in the walk can ask to stay on the boat to join Widow Island or do some shopping
Hanoi
Return to Ba Be Jungle Houses restaurant for lunch before ending the tour, you will be taken about 230 km back to Hanoi and stop at a tea plantation located among rolling hills. When we arrived in Hanoi, it was time to say goodbye, creating lifelong memories and bonds.

We experienced beautiful days in northeastern Vietnam. What a beautiful region and friendly people. We were excellently guided by our guide Eddie. There was no effort too much to give us a nice time. The driver was always on time. Thanks for the clear and smooth organization and the very good guidance!

I went in the monsoon time of year so we had some heavy rain and unpredictable weather. Eddie our guide and our driver were very professional and friendly and drove to conditions to keep us safe. Eddie was very knowlegeable and passionate about the history of vietnam which I really enjoyed learning. This itinerary lets you see and learn about the real vietnam and get off the tourist track. The views from the viewpoint are well worth the hike and the boat ride is very relaxing. I highly recommend the tour.

Had a 3 day tour of the Cao Bang Surrounds around Ban Gioc Waterfall, Ba Be Lake, Chinese border - was very good and amazing scenery in a nice comfortable bus. Days felt long with long bus travel during days, but was worth it for the scenery. Giang guiding us was great.

You cover a lot of country, the farm stay was so great-to wake up surrounded by rice Feilds, the real experience with lovely accommodation and so much food, then onto the jungle stay again really lovely accommodation- it’s just a bit rushed. An extra night would be ideal

Ban Gioc waterfall is very beautiful and the nature along the way to the fall and later Babe lake (incl the national park) were amazing. It is a lot of time on the bus though as you have a lot of (very pretty) ground to cover! Thank you John & the driver for taking good care of us for 3 days!

Paying the extra money for a tour is 100% worth it in my eyes. We had only been in Vietnam 3 days before going on our tour and it makes a huge difference on how you see everything around you. It helps you ease into the culture very easily. Our tour guide, Eddie, spoke very good English and was a very kind man. He was very knowledgeable on everything we went to see and went past. The places we stayed were also luxurious and very clean. The first night was in a little village in the mountains. We got to see the culture and lifestyle of the families in this village and it was amazing. The views of the places we went to were also incredible. The food we ate was delicious and there was plenty of it too. There is quite a bit of driving but the van was comfortable and the driver was very good and smooth. Could easily take quick naps while on the road. The tour was out of our budget but was 100% worth the money. Staying in lovely places, eating heaps of lovely food, gaining insight into Vietnamese culture and way of life and seeing jaw dropping sights. Suitable for all ages aswell, we are a young couple and had the best time and we were with a middle aged couple who loved it too. Mr Linhs Adventures are a great company and I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

After competing with the hordes of other tourists at Sapa, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay, Cao Bang Province was extremely refreshing. Yes it's a long way by road to get up to the border with China to see the Ban Gioc falls, and another long day on the bus to get back to Hanoi. For me the beauty of the area in general (not only the falls/ cave/ lake that are the highlights), and fewer tourists, made that worthwhile. However what really made the difference was the fantastic organisation of our itinerary by Nginh (I know I've spelt that incorrectly). He changed our accommodation on night 1, as he could see we were an older group and would be grateful for some creature comforts. This also meant that we were closer to the falls the next morning, so had a more leisurely morning than we otherwise would have had. We were the first and only people in the Nguom Ngao cave the next morning, and there were very few other tourists at Ban Gioc falls when we arrived. By the time we left the crowds were growing. THIS is good planning, and I appreciated it. The other thing I appreciated was Nginh's concern that my physical limitations shouldn't prevent me from experiencing everything on offer. He encouraged me to take part when I was concerned I'd be too slow for the group. And often he held my hand to ensure I felt safe on stairs with no handrails. He's very passionate about the region, and often took photos along with us, even though he travels there as often as once a week. And to top the trip off we had Bao driving us. He was excellent. He handled the Hanoi traffic, the long days, and even a dodgy back road that was having roadwork done on it, with skill and good humour.
