Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli
An interesting visit to St. Francis Basilica with his early Renaissance master-pieces by Giotto and Cimabue and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels , After the death of Saint Francis in 1226, the friars built several small huts around the Porziuncola. In 1230, a refectory and some adjacent buildings were added. In the course of time, little porticoes and accommodations for the friars were added around the Porziuncola. Some foundations of these were discovered during excavations under the floor of the present basilica between 1967 and 1969. As vast numbers of pilgrims came flocking to Assisi to receive the "Pardon of Assisi" the small space of the Porziuncola became completely inadequate to house all these pilgrims. The necessity grew to build a church incorporating the Porziuncola. The buildings around the shrine were taken down by order of Pope Pius V (1566-1572), except the Chapel of the Transito, the cell in which St. Francis had died. Construction of the basilica started on 25 March 1569.
Basilica di Santa Chiara
Visit the church of Santa Chiara , The church was built, after the death of Santa Chiara, between 1257 and 1265, around the ancient church of San Giorgio, which until 1230 had kept the mortal remains of St. Francis

The private tour organized by Welcome Italy was amazing. Our guide, Staycee took care of our group and even accommodated our needs (we have two seniors in the group). It was such an amazing experience that we decided to book another tour the following day. They are super flexible (allowed changes in the itinerary) to ensure we maximize and enjoy our day fully. Special shout out to our guide Staycee, and both our drivers Pino and Luigi. We are grateful for the amazing experience, you made our trip to Rome extra magical. Thanks!

It was an excellent experience! We were treated like royalty by Giuseppe, our tour guide, and Luigi, our driver. They were both very flexible and work out the itinerary with us. We were able to visit what we wanted to see in Assisi and Irvieto. They were punctual in picking us up at our hotel. The restaurant that was recommended for lunch was very good, food was delicious. Overall experience was excellent , will use this company again and be glad to have Giuseppe and Luigi as our guide in the future travel. Thanks for the wonderful service.

They had canceled one boat ride and then canceled the second one. They said it got canceled because of the water, however , there were at least 15 to 20 ferries on the water. I feel it was because we only had 7 touredt.

Marie was very nice and knowledgeable. Our driver Joseph picked us up on time and brought us back home safely. Since Marie lives in Assisi she knows this area in and out. You would be lucky if you get her as your tour guide.

It was a long day but a great day. The tour vehicle was a new Toyota electric van. Very comfortable. Atom our driver was excellent. We stopped for 20 minutes each way to charge the van and get snacks and use the toilet. Our guide Marie was exceptional. Orvieto and Assisi are great sites. It was nice to see the countryside.

A fun, full day and worth the cost. There is a lot of walking including inclines and stairs. Two members of the group were unable physically to complete the tour.
