Thames River
We begin on the banks of the River Thames, the lifeblood of London for nearly two millennia. Here we uncover how the river shaped the city — from Roman crossings and medieval marvels to executions, sayings like “one for the road”, and the darker side of Southwark life.
London Bridge
Discover the many lives of London Bridge: once a medieval wonder lined with houses, shops, and pubs; later a stage for grisly executions with traitors’ heads displayed on spikes. We’ll trace its decline, its surprising sale to an American businessman, and how part of it now stands in Arizona.

Incredible experience, Niall finds the perfect balance between local history of the area and the pubs we are visiting. All the pubs are local and independent - full of uniqueness and storytelling. Niall is great craic and extremely friendly. His social media consultant Jack is a great guy as well (even if from Limerick, Ireland!)

What a great day out. Having seen Nial’s Instagram page (properboozers) we thought we’d book his tour whilst in London. I love a traditional pub and a good pint. So to have someone take us to some of the best, whilst learning some interesting history was a real treat. We’ll do this again next time we’re down.

I went on this tour in October 2025 with a friend and her dog, having followed the Proper Boozers account on Instagram for several years. Niall's tour was very entertaining - he told the stories of Southwark and the pubs themselves with wit and authority and was friendly and approachable throughout the tour. The four pubs we visited were all lovely, with well kept ales (if, like me, you're partial to "beer with twigs"). I'd heartily recommend this tour to any pub or local history lover.
