Our tour guide and the vehicle will pick you up at your hotel/location as pickup time scheduled and then start the Half Day Hanoi Tour. The first site of the tour is Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, one of the most visited attractions in Hanoi (it is open in the morning from 8:00am - 11:30am & close on Monday, Friday weeky). It is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, the most iconic and popular leader of Vietnam, known to his people as ‘Uncle Ho’. His body is preserved here in a glass case at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in central Hanoi (albeit against his wishes). For visitors, a trip to Uncle Ho’s final resting place can be an extraordinary experience as it is not just an average attraction; it’s a part of a unique history (no shorts, no miniskirts are allowd when entering the mausoleum).
One Pillar Pagoda
Legend claims that The One Pillar Pagoda was built following a dream by the fatherless emperor in which the enlightened being Avalokiteshvara gave him a baby son resting on a lotus flower. Emperor Ly Thai Tong commissioned the pagoda to be created in resemblance of this lotus flower which is also the Buddhist symbol of enlightenment. The Emperor remained in gratitude to the bodhisattva and subsequently to to Quan Am, the Goddess of Mercy following the birth of his son. Inside the temple a richly gilded statue of Quan Am takes centre place at the main altar. Today, the concrete pillar that supports the tiny wooden pagoda is a replacement for the original one which was blown up by the departing French, it remains unclear how much of the wooden temple is the original one.

The good... Guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic (although a little too enthusiastic for our personal taste) and the driver was safe. The bad... Was very rushed at each stop. No time for any independent looking around so if we wanted to see more we'd need to go back and pay another entry. No advice warning that the mausoleum was closed as was the cathedral. Much less than the approximated 4-5 hours (about 3hours for ours). The ugly... No water as advertised (and standard on all tours). Didnt stop at all at the opera (as advertised) not even mentioned and it looked closed anyway. In summary... Very much overpriced for what you get - could be replaced with a map and small pamphlet.

We had an awesome tour with our guide Andy. He was extremely knowledgeable and caring on our tour today. His english was very good. He didn’t rush the time we had with him and he answered all questions that we had in a lot of detail. We cannot recommend this tour enough. Thank you very much Andy. Also the driver was very good too and made sure we got to our destinations safely. We would highly recommend Andy and the driver.

Andy was such a pleasure. We ended up running a few mins behind due to traffic and a misunderstanding with our Grab driver and Andy was kind enough to wait for us and stayed on the phone with me until we found him. We ended up being the only two on this specific tour time, it was great. We got to experience what felt like a private tour with Andy and our driver who made sure we got to every sight safely. Also, we went home with an amazing tote bag as a token of Andy’s appreciation! While the whole trip was amazing, train street was the highlight and an absolute must!!

Our particular guide seemed more interested in getting the tour over and stealing away to have a smoke than in really giving us a nice informative tour.
