Old City Gate
Built in 18th century, O Quan Chuong, also called Dong Ha (ie Dong Ha ward) or East gate, was located in the east of the citadel surrounding the capital city of Thang Long. This city gate then was named after a chief of the army (Quan Chuong) to remember his sacrifice and Nguyen soldiers, to fight against the French when they attacked Hanoi.

As a couple of middle aged brits were a bit nervous about getting on a scooter, particularly with the overwhelming traffic. However we were soon enjoying the ride immensely.. what a buzz! We travelled out into the less touristy area , across the old bridge . We stopped in several areas to try local delights, down tiny alleys , back over to the old quarter and also a trip to the iconic train street. Manh and his lovely girlfriend were wonderful company and it was lovely to hear about life in Vietnam. We 100% recommend this tour … do it, it’s great!

We booked this with Mark (Manh Tran) from recommendations on FB travel page reviews! We had a great time exploring local sites, short cuts and food haunts we would never have found let alone tried by ourselves! We were with another two couples as a small group. Although traffic hectic we felt safe with our drivers ability. Guide had excellent English and shared his knowledge. Fabulous way to start our trip to Hanoi!

I'd seen some great recommendations/ photos on Facebook about this food tour so enquired about how to book / cost. Mark responded quickly & we arranged our tour. All I can say is that it was one of the highlights on our trip to Vietnam. We felt very safe & were very well looked after. Mark & Harry's English is excellent and they could answer all our questions. We had a lot of fun whizzing round the city on the back of their motorbikes, we were taken to places to eat where there were no other tourists. The food was amazing and very plentiful. We ended up at Train Street before we were dropped off at our hotel. The guys were a lot of fun and Mark took some great photos of us too. I absolutely recommend the tour 100%. Thank you for a brilliant evening

We had an absolute blast, in the chaos of Hanoi’s roads we did not once feel unsafe :) The food was scrumptious, there was so much we couldn’t eat it all, having a vegetarian diet I was impressed at how they went above and beyond to accommodate that :) It was nice to sit with locals and hear about Vietnams food culture plus heritage. We also had some lovely photos taken and was sent to us later :) I would highly recommend , we will definitely do again:)

My family and I had the best time with Mark’s food/bike tour around Hanoi! Ate so much delicious food we had never seen before and had so much fun along the way. Thanks Mark and the rest of the group, will definitely be back to do it again one day 😊

We loved this tour--definitely the highlight of our trip to Vietnam! Our teenage boys loved riding on the scooters through Hanoi, and we ate dishes that we didn't see anywhere else on our travels. Lots of deliciousness and a great glimpse into real Vietnamese food. Highly recommend!

My husband and I visited Vietnam in August 2025. I came upon Mark’s profile from another Vietnam group on Facebook and reading through other peoples feedback I decided to book a bike food tour with Mike. My husband and I were treated to a great experience, trying food that we would never have even dared try on our own. The whole experience of riding on the back of a scooter in the madness of Vietnam traffic made the experience even more of an adventure and was definitely a highlight of our stay. I would highly recommend Mark and his team for either a food or city tour if you find yourselves in Hanoi . I will definitely keep his details for future visits and to recommend him to family and friends that go visit.

Great way to sample local food and see some unique sights while on the back of a scooter. All of my group loved our tour and felt safe at all times. Make sure you bring an appetite as there is plenty of different food to try.

We had the most unforgettable experience on a Hanoi food tour by scooter — and I honestly can’t recommend it enough, especially if you’re looking for something adventurous and child-friendly! I had my doubts about by daughter riding on the back of a scooter or the food as we’re really fussy eaters however this was, by far, our favourite activity. From the moment we were picked up by Manh and his friendly guides (who instantly made our child feel safe and excited), we knew we were in for a unique afternoon/evening. Zipping through the bustling streets and quieter outlying areas of Hanoi during a dramatic thunderstorm only added to the magic — the rain-slicked roads and the low rumble of thunder gave the city an electrifying energy that made everything feel cinematic. A massive bonus is that Manh is also a professional photographer and caught lots of magical moments with the thunderstorm as the back drop. AMAZING. The tour was perfectly paced, with stops at hidden gems as well as iconic locations like Train Street, where we sat sipping egg coffee just inches from the rails. We also explored the city walls, other iconic landmarks and roadside kitchens most tourists would never stumble upon. The food was incredible — a perfect mix of authentic Vietnamese classics and some truly unusual delicacies for the more adventurous. Everything was fresh, and each stop came with stories, laughter, and warm hospitality. Most importantly for us, Manh was amazing with food preferences/allergies — he double-checked ingredients at every stop and adapted the tastings without fuss or compromise. We felt completely safe. Whether you’re a foodie, a thrill-seeker, or traveling with kids and want to see the real Hanoi beyond the usual tourist trail — this tour is a must. It’s a full sensory experience that we’ll be talking about for years!

Myself and my partner had a great experience with Hanoi food tour hosted by Mark. He even went to the thoughtful process of choosing another staff member whom had things in common with us, he was moving to Aus and even going to attend the same uni as me! We had a great time and really learnt a lot about Vietnamese food and culture, as well as some history. Highly recommend this tour to anyone.
