The Holy Year, or Jubilee, finds its origins in ancient biblical traditions of renewal observed every 50 years. It was formally established in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII as a time for spiritual renewal and indulgences. Over the centuries, the tradition evolved, and since 1470, the Holy Year has been celebrated every 25 years, offering the faithful regular opportunities for grace and reflection. These occasions have drawn millions of pilgrims to Rome, becoming pivotal moments of faith and celebration.
The Holy Door takes on a special significance: it is the most powerful sign of the Jubilee, since the ultimate aim of the pilgrim is to pass through it. Important: while planning please reserve at least 2 hours for the experience. On busy days (important religious events, Papal audiences on Wednesdays, weekends ) experience may take longer than planned.

What To Expect

3.00We paid by guide in Spanish and assigned Italian guide. He was talking very fast and we didn't understand when I walked and then he left with nothing else. Still, the Vatican and the Basilica are must-see activities

1.00This is such a ripped off. Never should be offered as a tour from Viator. The person asked us to walk around Vatican and ended the tour there. Did not even have any interesting information. Repeats and repeats the information. Would forget and jump to whatever comes to his mind - they don’t even have a script, unbelievable! They should have just let the person read the history at least you’ll get something from it. We were asking for the entrance to the door, he said he’ll comeback for us. Who knows coz we didn’t think he was going to even comeback because he just left us, so really no entrance to the Holy Door. This is a scam!

1.00Do NOT buy the ticket for St. Peter’s Holy Door enterance!!!! The entrance is FREE - you do NOT need a ticket! I was scammed. Such a shame on this company for profiting and scamming people off something so Holy. Shame!
