Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Head inside Kew Gardens and then spend as little or as much time as you like exploring London’s finest botanical gardens. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kew Gardens consists of acres of tranquil grounds with one of the world’s largest collections of plants. Either walk around at leisure or join one of the free guided walking tours that take place daily in the gardens. Stroll around admiring highlights like the Azalea Garden, Minka House and Bamboo Garden in the center of the park. Check out the 17th century-style Queen’s Garden near Kew Palace (also known as the Dutch House), and see several of Kew’s oldest sculptures that were donated by the British Royal Family. Perhaps take a walk along the Rhizotron and Xstrara Treetop Walkway, and stroll through the crowns of oak trees at a height of 59 feet (18m), seeing birdlife, fungi and lichen up close. Watch out for the 10-storey Pagoda in the southwest corner of the gardens, and wander along the Holly Walk, seeing trees that have grown there for over 130 years. Bask in balmy tropical temperatures inside Temperate House – the world’s largest surviving Victorian glasshouse – and see a spectacular array of African plants and sub-tropical trees and palms. In the center of the beautiful building is a Chilean Wine Palm, which is said to be one of the world’s tallest indoor plants. With plenty of leafy picnic areas, as well as four cafés on site, you can eat lunch inside the gardens (own expense), or simply sit down and relax in between seeing all the rich flora and fauna.

Need to allow for a half day to see everything that Kew has to offer. Great places to eat and we visited late spring so the bulbs were amazing.

Just to make sure to dress appropriately. The weather can be inconsistent. If you desire to fully experience the gardens, wear comfortable shoes.

A great day out in a beautiful location only spoiled by the 25 minute queue to get two cans of tango in the Pavillion bar and grill cafe! The only person running the orders had no idea how to use an automatic coffee maker and the queue was out the door. Tip, have one person making coffee and one doing everything else.

I stopped for a coffee in the cafe near the pagoda.. sadly it has been the worst experience ever . I can’t believe the poor staff are worked off of their feet . I could not order a coffee at the table as I didn’t have my card with me to pay .. so I joined a queue with 30 other patrons I waited for 35 mins to get a coffee!! On the app it stated there was a 20 mins wait for food after speaking to a manager she was delightful, could not have apologised more about being short of staff !! So my feedback to MANAGEMENT: it’s NOT ROCKET SCIENCE , did you not see the weather prediction or know its half term ? , it’s half term a lovely day and you are taking £25 pp .. GET MORE STAFF to cope with the volume of visitors wanting refreshment and if your overstaffed God Forbid!, then they can clear tables quicker and serve food .. ps I’m a long time member and feel sorry for the staff and customers with this level of service for the price paid … Also sort out your ordering app to be more user friendly..

Don’t book tickets with these people. They are useless and are only after your money. Go directly to Kew.

We went to Kew - a first for my husband and memory lane for me - and it did not disappoint. Even though it was not in full blom the green houses did not disappoint - there was miles to walk and too se the pagoda again brought back happy memories of family day outs - when Kew was 1p to visit!!!! However,. the cost of Kew is £48 for 2 !!! Very expensive for what is on offer as Hyde Park costs nothing and most of the plants can be seen anywhere now - it is no longer unique- I can grow the lilies and peace plants that are in the green houses in my own home. The signage is very poor as it is so small to read - so you have to walk up to it and then find you have to go in another direction. And the staff were everywhere but not one spoke , whizzing around in buggies - beware if you have children as they do speed around and they are definitely not friendly - not a nod or a smile!! On a positive - the Hive is a must a genius concept- the tropical green houses with the Rainforests and Arid area was excellent - my husband greatly enjoyed the tree walk and we loved the space to roam. Excellent coffee in the Victorian cafe but £5.50 for a very small slice of a cake was extremely overpriced. Sandwiches cheaper but lacked taste Saw school children of all ages they appeared to be having having a great time Unfortunately due to the cost and poor value for money I do not think I would go back.

Visiting Kew Gardens has been on my bucket list for ages. An opportunity came as our son was running in the Kew Gardens half marathon so we booked a ticket for the day before with an add-on ticket to climb up the pagoda. The gardens themselves are vast, so to see all areas and get best value we’d suggest allowing most of the day. The glasshouses were our favourite areas, and most other peoples too, as they were quite crowded. Naturally the gardens are seasonal, so in many areas for our visit in late march, many trees and shrubs were bare and there was limited colour. The daffodils were mostly fading but the tulips not quite at their best. I’d like to visit again maybe in the summer to see more colour. Overall it felt like being in a ‘posh park’ rather than a perfectly manicured garden - that isn’t a criticism though - more about my understanding of what I imagined it to be. Slightly disappointing is there are a number of areas that our under renovation like the Minka House and Lily pond. That can’t be helped as these things have to be done - we just would have liked to see them. Kew palace is worth a walk round at the Elizabeth Gate end, and also if you are feeling energetic so is a climb up the pagoda at the opposite end of the site for some super views of the area. The gift shop has many lovely things to tempt visitors too.
