Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Head inside Kew Gardens and then spend as little or as much time as you like exploring London’s finest botanical gardens. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kew Gardens consists of acres of tranquil grounds with one of the world’s largest collections of plants. Either walk around at leisure or join one of the free guided walking tours that take place daily in the gardens. Stroll around admiring highlights like the Azalea Garden, Minka House and Bamboo Garden in the center of the park. Check out the 17th century-style Queen’s Garden near Kew Palace (also known as the Dutch House), and see several of Kew’s oldest sculptures that were donated by the British Royal Family. Perhaps take a walk along the Rhizotron and Xstrara Treetop Walkway, and stroll through the crowns of oak trees at a height of 59 feet (18m), seeing birdlife, fungi and lichen up close. Watch out for the 10-storey Pagoda in the southwest corner of the gardens, and wander along the Holly Walk, seeing trees that have grown there for over 130 years. Bask in balmy tropical temperatures inside Temperate House – the world’s largest surviving Victorian glasshouse – and see a spectacular array of African plants and sub-tropical trees and palms. In the center of the beautiful building is a Chilean Wine Palm, which is said to be one of the world’s tallest indoor plants. With plenty of leafy picnic areas, as well as four cafés on site, you can eat lunch inside the gardens (own expense), or simply sit down and relax in between seeing all the rich flora and fauna.

Went to the evening halloween event with our two children (8 and 10). We were all really impressed: such atmosphere, nice surprises, and all in good spirit. Really much better than our expectations!

Loved spending about 4 hours there. Despite being on a Sunday, it wasn’t overly crowded. Being flat it makes it such an easy park to get around. Taking the garden train and doing the full circuit up front gave an excellent overview of what we could see and wanted to go back to. Such a relaxed environment to wander around and enjoy the tranquility and beauty. Even a great dedicated area of for kids to enjoy and families to picnic We actually caught a bus from Heathrow Terminal 4 where we were staying and then a train back. Very easy to get to and from. Kew Gardens Train station is only a few minutes amble so really easy to get to and from.

The day I visited absolutely poured with rain, which did not help. That said, the grounds were absolutely stunning! I loved the wide variety of trees. I especially liked seeing the Pinus pinea trees in the Mediterranean Garden. I saw two of the glass houses. The park is absolutely enormous and would take several days to fully explore. The only real down-side was the constant droning of aeroplanes (a plane flew lough overhead roughly every two minutes). Other than that, it was hard to believe I was in a big city. Food in the café was good, but expensive (London prices). Staff were very friendly. I look forward to one day visiting again, which in fairness might be some time away as I live at the opposite end of the country). The weather was so bad that it was hard to really make the most of such a beautiful place.

An absolutely heavenly place! If I lived in London, I would go every day. The gardens are varied and unique, and all very well-maintained. I want to live there!

Kew Gardens is a beautiful massive green space in London. The recommendation to spend 2-3 hours here is just not enough. My husband and I were there for 4 hours without stopping to lunch or snack. We didn’t get to all the areas we wanted to see. We did get take in many of the highlights. Though it is now Fall , there were many flowers still blooming throughout the Gardens. Staff was noticed throughout working on maintaining the grounds.

Not only were the gardens beautiful (we even saw a red fox) but our future son in-law proposed to our daughter there. Very memorable place for us now!

We absolutely loved our time at the Gardens and it entertained our family with 2 kids ages 9 and 16 for 3-4 hours. We had a wonderful day there. The Kew Gardens area as a whole was a lovely area. We purchased the general family of 4 tickets from the main website. I would recommend bringing your own snacks or sandwiches in with you as the concessions were pricey and underwhelming.

What a wonderful way to spend your day, the grounds are beautiful! The staff always had a smile. We really enjoyed the train ride, you got to see every site without walking. Afterwords we went and saw the places without being tired.
