Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
Head inside Kew Gardens and then spend as little or as much time as you like exploring London’s finest botanical gardens. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kew Gardens consists of acres of tranquil grounds with one of the world’s largest collections of plants. Either walk around at leisure or join one of the free guided walking tours that take place daily in the gardens. Stroll around admiring highlights like the Azalea Garden, Minka House and Bamboo Garden in the center of the park. Check out the 17th century-style Queen’s Garden near Kew Palace (also known as the Dutch House), and see several of Kew’s oldest sculptures that were donated by the British Royal Family. Perhaps take a walk along the Rhizotron and Xstrara Treetop Walkway, and stroll through the crowns of oak trees at a height of 59 feet (18m), seeing birdlife, fungi and lichen up close. Watch out for the 10-storey Pagoda in the southwest corner of the gardens, and wander along the Holly Walk, seeing trees that have grown there for over 130 years. Bask in balmy tropical temperatures inside Temperate House – the world’s largest surviving Victorian glasshouse – and see a spectacular array of African plants and sub-tropical trees and palms. In the center of the beautiful building is a Chilean Wine Palm, which is said to be one of the world’s tallest indoor plants. With plenty of leafy picnic areas, as well as four cafés on site, you can eat lunch inside the gardens (own expense), or simply sit down and relax in between seeing all the rich flora and fauna.

I visited Kew Gardens during a trip and really enjoyed the calm atmosphere. The garden are beautifully maintained, with plenty of space to walk around and take your time. There is a great mix of plants, greenhouses, and open areas, and it never felt rushed or overcrowded. It is an ideal place to relax, learn a bit, and enjoy nature. Definitely worthy a visit if you are nearby.

Christmas at Kew - magical walking trail with music, light games and playground for the whole family, which needs to be booked in advance. Cozy to warm up with hot cider along the way. Guaranteed Christmas spirit. However, expensive to eat on site, churros burned.

Best light trail we’ve been to, really stunning and made us appreciate the beauty of winter more because of the clever use of the lights in the gardens. We went in on a late evening slot in November and couldn’t believe how quiet it was - didn’t have to queue for anything and seeing the family of foxes playing at the end was the perfect finale!

Easily accessible by tube, Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens is a magical place, even in late November. The greenhouses, the paths in the park, the fairytale landscape: swans, ducks, geese and even foxes. Nature is celebrated here, in every season; for me, it is a must-see place in London. There are a number of cafés and a gift shop on site. There are also bathrooms for the public, all very well maintained.

Sadly really terrible this year. Been going for years and sadly this will be last time as clearly they've cut the budget - no water light show, no lights high in trees as you arrive, no lights on sky trail, poor lights everywhere else. And too busy. Shame and now we will try elsewhere.

Walking around 10 mins on the Christmas light trail and not feeling Christmassy at all. Thinking it will get better as we go further around, but sadly it never did. This light show could have been put up any time of the year, as would not call it a Christmas light show? With hardly a twinkling light, Christmas tree, Reindeer, Santa's, snowmen or baubles, all what you imagine Christmas being, even with the nutcracker, all that makes Christmas, Christmas! There were lots of dark spaces with trees just lite up with coloured spot lights, but no twinkle. It was my first ever visit to Kew and I think probably my last, I travelled all day to get there, just to be disappointed. I visited Wimpole Christmas light trail and it was magical, with Kew there was no magic!
