From early November to February the Vesuvius isn't accessible and it is replaced with Positano, except for Christmas period (from 26/12/25 until 02/01/26) when Vesuvius is open.
During summer months in rare cases of inclement weather or strikes, the crater of Vesuvius may be closed to visitors, therefore, if this is the case, it is replaced with a visit to Sorrento where you will get free time to explore the city.
The hike up to the crater of Vesuvius requires a good level of general fitness. The walk is uphill at a 14 degree angle and takes roughly 20 minutes.

The Vesuvius portion was canceled due to wild fires. I would have rather spent more time at Pompeii than time in Sorrento.. or just a shorter trip if that wasn’t possible. It ended up being a long day, due in part to some traffic on the way back. Pompeii is definitely worth it, even if you’re only able to see a quarter of the site. I’ll want to go back on my own and spend more time there some day. The guide was nice and energetic.

I would recommend this tour especially with Angelina who was our tour guide at the begging who got us on the bus with our amazing driver, Danilo aka The Gladiator aka Dan The Man. He drove us to Pompeii and Sorrento so smoothly through the rome and county side streets so well that we enjoy it so well that we feel asleep. Angelina was so sweet and funny and regaling us with funny story and tidbits about Rome and history and lore. Our tour guide, Claudia for Pompeii was great and a trouper taking up around and providing amazing details through the Italian heat wave. She kept up the pace and ingage. We were supposed to go to Mount Vesuvius, but it was closed due to some activity in the mountain, but they company, Angela made up for it by taking us to the town of Sorrento, which was a nice little detour. I went to the lemon cello factory and had a sample and sicken the sites and sounds of the Amalfi coast . After that, Daniel showed it to his amazing driving skills while Angelina continue to keep us entertained with fun tips and history and just general conversation. I would definitely book this company again as they made it easy to travel and enjoy and if you’re short on time and you wanna see more than just the Roman city and venture out a bit, I would highly recommend them. I look forward to my next booking.

We selected the Pompeii and Vesuvius Hike option, but due to a fire on Vesuvius our group was redirected to the Pompeii and Sorrento option instead. This tour is a really long day: over 13 hours from start to finish. The Pompeii tour itself is only about 90 minutes and we got an hour and 45 minutes in Sorrento. The bus trip involves a few 20 minute stops: two bathroom/bus driver breaks in Cassino and a Limoncello factory/gift shop. I wish we had more time in Pompeii. It isn’t the tour company’s fault that Vesuvius was closed, but it would’ve been better if we could’ve just had a longer Pompeii tour instead of taking an additional long drive further away to Sorrento. The tour guide was good but Pompeii is huge and I feel like we only saw a small portion. Sorrento was cute but with such a short time there, you basically just have time to peruse some shops and eat a snack. The lemon sorbet we had there was amazing though. Be sure to bring lots of water. There are not really opportunities to refill bottles in Pompeii that we saw. The lunch is at a sort of tourist-trap looking place across the street from the Pompeii entrance. The pizza was pretty good. The salad had what appeared to be canned tuna on it, which was unexpected and not disclosed when we were discussing the menu with our guide. If your party is small they seat you with other members of your tour. We enjoyed talking with our fellow travelers at lunch. If I were to go to Pompeii from Rome again I think I would try to book a tour that travelled by train or make my own train arrangements and select a longer Pompeii tour. The bus was fine but the AC struggled to cool it down on the way home and the ride just felt long and somewhat uncomfortable. If you are tall with long legs you may feel cramped. My overall experience was positive because this trip allowed me to see Pompeii from Rome, but I think a tour that focused on traveling to one location instead of trying to do too many different places in one day would have been better.

This was an unforgettable tour! First we visited Pompei Archeological Park. Our guide there Nicola was amazing! Then enjoyed 3-course meal which included absolutely delicious Neapolitan style pizza and a local dessert. Next, we were scheduled to hike Vesuvius, but because of wild fires, hiking trails were closed and so our itinerary was modified - we instead continued to Sorrento. What a spectacular place that was! No regrets whatsoever that we had to skip the hike and enjoy this beautiful coastal town instead. Limoncello tasting in Sorrento was superb followed by about 1 hour and a half leisure time there. All along we were guided by amazing Angela, who told us incredible stories throughout our day and took great card of us! Unforgettable dxperience overall!

There was a fire and a road closure due to an accident. I was very impressed with the staff of World Tours as well as Viator Support. I was given appropriate refund and still had an amazing trip. Very impressed with Viator
