From early November to February the Vesuvius isn't accessible and it is replaced with Positano, except for Christmas period (from 26/12/25 until 02/01/26) when Vesuvius is open.
During summer months in rare cases of inclement weather or strikes, the crater of Vesuvius may be closed to visitors, therefore, if this is the case, it is replaced with a visit to Sorrento where you will get free time to explore the city.
The hike up to the crater of Vesuvius requires a good level of general fitness. The walk is uphill at a 14 degree angle and takes roughly 20 minutes.

Really informative. The guide, Alberto, was amusing, knowledgeable and kind. I have been to Pompeii previously on a guided tour, however, this one was much better. The trip to Mt Vesuvius was great too. The guide clearly knew his onions. The food was great too. I would highly recommend.

The morning pick up setup can be improved, have your folks hold signs per departure time and location, the current yelling method was confusing and inefficient. The trip got so much better after, Chiara was a rockstar, great balance between important information and keeping the group engaged , the Pompeii guide was okay, she was mumbling most of the time and was hard to hear her, lunch was amazing, well organized, super friendly staff, the geologist was great, she was super passionate about iit, made it interesting. overall the trip was great and getting out from Rome madness for a day was great too

The organization at the starting point was chaotic and disorganized. The Pompeii English speaking guide was not understandable and lacked energy, just going through the motions.

Fantastic experience to visit Pompeii and hike up Mount Vesuvius. Veronica was an amazing guide who was very knowledgeable and provided insightful information about the surrounding geography and history of key sites on the way to Pompeii. The total trip lasted about 13 hours. The morning meetup in the square was very packed as it consisted of multiple tour groups meeting at similar times. Would recommend seeking out the tour guides (usually wearing a blue shirt, but all holding a flag) as they helped point us to where to check in and sort us into our correct tour groups. The drive consisted of an early rest stop (where we grabbed a coffee, pastry, and sandwich) for breakfast before getting to Pompeii. From there, our group was handed off to local Pompeii tour guides that walked us through the excavated ruins and provided context and facts about the site (that I otherwise would’ve missed completely had we gone alone) - lasted about ~2 hours. After this the group was taken to a local lunch spot for lunch (three course meal with appetizers, pizza, and cake for dessert) and then to Mount Vesuvius hike. We were allotted ~1.5 hours for the hike. The hike was steep (reported 15 degree incline, but felt steeper at some parts), but doable! Saw a previous review that recommended taking it slow and steady, which was absolutely correct! Took us about 50 minutes to get to the top (with multiple small breaks) and 25 minutes to get back to the bottom, with the rest of the time to take in the views from the top. If you want to see Pompeii from the south side of the mountain, would recommend bringing a pair of binoculars - the shop owners at the very top did help point out the site. Stunning views of Naples and the bay to the North. The last stop of a trip was a small family-owned shop with limoncello tastings and a great place to buy souvenirs (alcoholic and lemon-based ornamentation), and they were helpful in guiding us what we were allowed to take back via flight back home to avoid confiscation (depending on where you live). Overall a tiring day but a very enjoyable and thorough experience. Would recommend checking out the weather beforehand and planning accordingly! We went on a cloudless and very sunny day, and sorely missed Nour sunscreen and hat at home.
