Great private cabin, we slept almost as well as in the hotel. The journey passes in a flash. Tour operator who contacted me on wa with all information and tickets.

We just woke up on our way to Sapa on the overnight sleeper with a double room, services on the train were excellent, drinks and snacks provided free of charge, very clean and comfortable, no rude interruptions, polite and friendly staff, exceeded expectations.

We laughed so much when we read some reviews about this trip - ‘like being shrunk, put in a tin can and rolled down the fire escape’. Not too far off!! The cabin was much more comfortable than we were expecting. Soft pillows and clean linen / duvets. Some water and fruit was provided along with a free drink just as we left. You have to pay for tea / coffee when you ‘land’. Don’t bother. It was pretty noisy as expected but I managed more sleep than I was expecting. Husband managed 2 hours! On arriving at 5:30am you really need to have worked out what happens next. We had brekky in the hotel opposite then had a lift organised. A few hours Kip in the hotel might have been a better option. We decided to get a lift back to Hanoi as we couldn’t face another night on the train.

I booked train tickets from Hanoi to SAPA with return on September 22/9 through SAPA Nomad. Due to yagi trains were cancelled. I was amazed with timely communication from SAPA nomad team and were highly responsive to my queries through out the phase. They managed to book private car adjusting the payment made for train travel with quick turnaround time. This enabled my travel plan not to disrupt and went as scheduled. Real Value proposition is their great service to clients.

Taking the train to Sapa overnight was an easy choice over a sleeper bus. We bought a room (4 berths) just for the 2 of us. The beds are extremely firm but the room is cozy and private. Water, some weird baguette spicy chips and a soda was displayed on the night table free to take. With 4 people in a room, I imagine it would get quite stuffy but with 2 it was fine. The air conditioning was not to high. I recommend taking a sleeping aid because the train is narrow (around 9 feet wide) so it sways back and forth. And earplugs! There are bathrooms on both sided of the carriage and a nice sink to wash up and brush your teeth. It was not luxurious, but gets you from point A to B just fine.

It was indeed a memorable experience. Good takeaway from our 12 day trip. My husband and I took the train overnight for the first time. It was relatively clean and spacious. Snacks and water was provided and shared toilet is clean too.
