Foro Romano
Just west of the Colosseum is the Roman Forum, which for many centuries was the place where the future of the ancient western civilization was decided. We will also provide you with skip-the-line access to the Roman Forum and you will still be under the careful attention of our expert guide. Although today the Roman Forum stands in ruins, for many reigns it was at the very center of Rome’s activities. It started as a marketplace for daily shopping, but as the power of the Empire grew, it became much more important. In this part of the tour, you will explore the remnants of ancient grandiose temples, bustling marketplaces, and imposing civic buildings. We will also show you the place where Rome first began—on Palatine Hill. Rome’s ancient existence has earned it the name “the Eternal City,” and its time as the ruling city of the lands bordering the Mediterranean Sea has earned it the designation “Capital of the World.”

Our guide from The Ultimate Italy was exceptional. The tour was small and we only had 12 in our group. The guide was very knowledgeable and had insight that was very interesting. She kept us together ACC made sure everyone was able to access each site. She was very caring and her English was perfect.

Carmelo was the best tour guide. He was so knowledgeable about everything! He was so kind and willing to share additional information about the city, where to eat, and things to do. So glad to have had him today, we had the best experience thanks to Carmelo!

I thought the guide’s English wasn’t very good. She spoke with a very strong Italian accent. The hearing device was one ear plug and between the two of these I missed most of what she said. Very disappointing.

Great to see amazing underground of Colosseum with a very knowledgable guide, and incredible Roman Forum with another very knowledgeable and entertaining guide, but did feel that we didn’t have that much time in the Forum, which was not the fault of the guide, but maybe future timings should be adjusted.

The tour guide was animated and really brought history to life! The coliseum is a wonder, and this is a thorough tour that helps you imagine life in Rome 2000 years ago.

Tour was pretty good. Directions for meeting location were incomplete which caused unnecessary stress. The audio headsets were often static and some in our group didn’t work (maybe because it was raining?). Our leader did her best since she had no control over the directions or equipment (new equipment did arrive about an hour into the tour). In addition another guide didn’t show so our group was combined with another and this was too large (again not her fault.). Lastly the tour was rushed in the underground sections maybe because we were behind because of all the problems?

Having the Forum and the underground portion of the Coliseum as part of the tour was fantastic. Doing just the above ground portion misses so much. Julia was very very knowledgeable and super nice.

Our tour began at the Roman Forum before heading to the Colosseum. Our first guide, Alessandro, was pleasant and spoke clearly, though we had some early headset issues. When we mentioned we couldn’t hear him, his response was, “Relax, this isn’t my first time,” which wasn’t exactly reassuring. It might’ve been a headset or channel issue, but it wasn’t acknowledged. In all fairness, our group was a bit quiet, and although he tried to engage us with pop quizzes, I would’ve preferred simply listening and soaking up the history. The Forum is such an expansive and fascinating site—it felt like we only had time to scratch the surface. The Colosseum portion, however, was fantastic! Our second guide was incredibly knowledgeable, with over 13 years of experience and academic background in the subject. I don’t recall her name but included a picture of her. Her pacing was perfect, her explanations clear, and she vividly brought the Colosseum’s long history and multiple uses to life. Thoughtful, thorough, and efficient — she made the experience memorable.

From start to finish, we thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Julia, our tour guide was outstanding, the visuals she brought to life and her knowledge were amazing. Would not do a tour within the colosseum without viator.
