【A Journey through Dadaocheng and Traditional Markets】 Alex will share your local stories throughout the alleys of Dadaocheng. Then, in the traditional market, you'll also have the opportunity to taste authentic delicacies and learn about local ingredients. Sometimes, you might want to chat with the vendor owners. Why not? We call it the Taiwanese experience. After the walking tour, we will cook Taiwanese cuisine at our cooking school. 【Cooking Classes】 Languages: The class is mainly conducted in English, but Alex also speaks Chinese and some basic Japanese, so there’s no need to worry too much about the language barrier. Daily classes except Monday. 09:30-12:30 Come along with your kids (under 12 years old), it'll be free of charge if they don't cook. And they can share your food. If your kids enjoy cooking, please reserve seats for them. Contact Alex through WhatsApp if you need any help. Each class requires a minimum of 2 participants. If we don’t reach the minimum, don’t worry—we’ll contact you in advance and offer a reschedule or a full refund at your convenience.

My wife and I loved our cooking class with Alex! First we met up with him on Dihua Old Street where he gave us a tour around the area. We learned the importance on thebarea and how it came to be suchba destination in Teipei. Alex took us around the morning market and tought us about the famous foods and produce of Taiwan. My wife and I bought a bell fruit (wax apple) and Dragon Fruit (the biggest and juciest I've ever seen), and both were delicious! Alex took us to one of the nearby temples and gave us a rundown on how the locals worship their ancestors (and sometimes ask them for advice). That was incredibly interesting! Last we went to Alex's fully loaded kitchen and learned how to make braised beef noodle soup from scratch! That was so much fun! I had actually never made noodles from scratch before. Alex went through every step with us and explained everything. The end result was a delicious well-earned lunch that we will take the know-how home with us. Alex was a great host and we will definitely book him on our next trip to Taiwan to learn a new recipe! We recommend Alex's tour and cooking class, you'll learn something and have an abaolute blast at the same time!

It was interesting that Alex told me about the history of Da Dao Chong, including his grandmother's story. During the market tour, they enjoyed friendly conversations with sellers and eating around, and were asked to explain vegetables, fruits, and prepared foods rarely seen in Japan. During the cooking class at the clean and stylish kitchen studio, four students (two American and two Japanese) cooked looloo rice based on the recipe of the teacher's mother. They were all good friends at the end of mealtime, with humor and a clear and careful teaching style. Of course it was very good. I bought it at a Taipei store after being taught mamebanjiang, which is familiar to the teacher, and I am motivated.

There were 4 participants, myself included, and it was like everyone was having a good time cooking, which was memorable! We went around the Dihua Market and made Lu Lohan. The teacher also explained it in Japanese, so it was very easy to understand. It was a pleasant memory. I was the last person there to pay because I couldn't register my credit card, but it was very helpful because it could be in Japanese yen.

Alex's cooking class was amazing! Would HIGHLY recommend! It's not just cooking, Alex gives you a bit of Taipei and Dadaocheng history, and his family's history in the area. Visiting the market with him was very special and gives you a whole different view and feel. The food was tasty, great instructions and I can't wait to cook lu rou fan again for my friends.

What a great class! I normally hate walking tours, but this was amazing! The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and his English was great! I couldn’t recommend this more. The cooking class was great after working my appetite up on the walking tour and I learned how make great Lu rou fan. I’ll definitely make this at home!

The cooking part of this tour was great. Didn't see the initial walking tour and 'photo shoots' as particularly necessary and the taking of group photos for social media marketing was a bit too intense for my taste.

Small group, great energy. Alex was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and its history, and the cooking was both fun and genuinely hands-on. I left feeling confident I could reproduce everything on my own. The market visit was engaging and insightful too. Overall, one of my most positive and memorable experiences from my trip to Taipei.

The cooking class was fantastic!!! My sons, born and raised in the U.S., have liked the dishes ever since they were little when we visited Taiwan. The dishes are popular and available everywhere, but it's not easy to find the true, authentic versions. We finally found the secrets of cooking the dishes from Alex. The walking tour of the market was also great! I learned something that I didn't know since I grew up in Taiwan. I highly recommend this course!
