Why follow the crowds? At Yorktour we believe a great tour should also be a fun conversation, which is why we guarantee there will be no more than eight participants so everyone can ask questions and no-one needs to worry about being left at the back! This family-friendly walking tour includes all the key sights - including the exterior of the Minster and the celebrated Shambles - though we will also lead you deep into the medieval maze of ‘Snickelways’ to follow in the footsteps of the Romans and Vikings who created York. Above all, our tours rely on great storytelling rather than gimmicks - so if we can’t remember everyone’s names there must be too many people taking part!

We are empty-nesters who traveled to York for a weekend in mid-October with another couple, having booked the Best of York on Foot in a Small Group well in advance. There were eight adults in our group, all retirees, plus our tour guide, who was originally from Instanbul but who has lived in York for over 15 years and is married to a Brit. She was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. We enjoyed learning the history of the various eras she described and seeing the beautiful Roman Walls, ruins of St. Mary's Abbey (thanks to Henry VIII), the Shambles market and of course, the regal and beautiful York Minster. The walk was easy and generally level and took about an hour and 45 minutes. Well worth the $54 USD we paid for two of us!

Our guide was knowledgeable and interesting. She knew the history of York and the general history of England as related to York. The tour so helped me understand that history.

An extremely informative and heartfelt tour of the history of York, and how it’s many layers came to co-exist through good fortune and happenstance. Absolutely first rate.

I loved this walking tour of York. The city has so much history and it was great to learn about it from a local. Alfred was very knowledgeable, easy to listen to and he answered everyone’s questions. He was very friendly and appeared to love sharing his wealth of information on his home town with visitors. I would definitely recommend this tour. Great value for money as well.
