Kuranda Scenic Railway
A 37-kilometre rail journey onboard authentic vintage carriages through the Barron Gorge National Park (World Heritage-listed rainforest – The Wet Tropics) from Cairns to Kuranda, a village in the rainforest. The track rises 327 metres above sea level with the steepest gradient being 1:50. Travelling over 55 bridges, 98 curves & through 15 hand carved tunnels. Audio commentary in each carriage to provide customers with historical information throughout the journey. Complimentary trip guide (available in 11 languages) The guide includes a journey map corresponding with the onboard commentary. Onboard Guest Services Attendants can answer questions and assist during the journey. 10-minute photographic stop at Barron Falls Lookout. Water coolers in each carriage. Not all Kuranda Scenic Railway seats have a window however all seats have access to view the scenery.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway
Enjoy a unique perspective of this ancient landscape with unsurpassed panoramic views of Barron Gorge and Australia’s Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Glide metres above the pristine jungle canopy between Smithfield (Cairns) and Kuranda, en route, descend to explore the rainforest close up at Red Peak and Barron Falls.

4.00The sky rail is absolutely awesome to get the true feel of how big the rainforest is and see the waterfalls!! The train, however, is a two-hour ride that you are mostly looking out at the base of the trees and going through tunnels and if you’re in the front car, there is a very high squealing noise as you go through all of the tunnels. Our guide, Man, was terrific giving us the history of Kuranda. Kuranda is an amazing place to visit!

5.00This Karanda Skyrail and train trip was a wonderful trip to take. We had a great tour guide named Man went above and beyond to keep us informed and organized. We were given so much information about the area and saw it from different t views up looking down in the skyrail and outward beautiful view from the rails. Learned a lot about the rainforest eco system it was a great day.

5.00We had a great day. The journey to Kuranda was lovely. We opted to go Gold class on the train and were served lite breakfast bites with drinks on our journey in the 100 year old track through the rainforest to Kuranda. After a spot of shopping we had a bite to eat and took the Skyrail over the top of the rainforest back to Cairns. The views were spectacular. Highly recommend the trip. Man collected us from our hotel on time and explained what the day entailed. He met us from the train and gave us a bit of some local knowledge, then took us to Kuranda picking us up after our free time to deposit us at the skyrail station for our journey back. All this in the style and comfort of his roomy transporter, finally dropping us to our hotel. Great job!

5.00Excellent experience with our guide picking us up from our hotel, dropping us at train and meeting in Kuranda. Very informative. Kuranda is primarily a walking of shops and restaurants but there are also several short walking trails as preferred. Tram way down is a must! Our guide met us at train stand and dropped us back at hotel. As long as travelers are on time this works great!
