Oshino Hakkai
(Optional) Discover Oshino Hakkai, a beautiful collection of eight ponds nestled in the quiet village of Oshino, part of the Fuji Five Lakes region. Situated between Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako, these ponds are the remnants of a former lake that dried out centuries ago. What to Expect: Natural Beauty: Stroll around the ponds, fed by snowmelt from Mount Fuji that filters through volcanic rock, resulting in exceptionally clear spring water. Cultural Connection: Learn about the historical significance of Oshino Hakkai and its importance to the local community. Photography Spots: Capture stunning views of Mount Fuji reflected in the serene waters of the ponds.
Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine
Visit Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, home to the iconic Chureito Pagoda, a five-story structure perched on a mountainside with Mount Fuji as a breathtaking backdrop. Built in 1963 as a peace memorial, the pagoda is part of the Arakura Sengen Shrine complex, accessible by climbing nearly 400 steps. What to Expect: Stunning Views: Enjoy panoramic views of Fujiyoshida City, with Mount Fuji beautifully framed by the Chureito Pagoda, offering one of the most iconic views of Japan. Photography: Capture perfect shots of Mount Fuji and the pagoda, especially during cherry blossom season or autumn. Our pickup began promptly at 8 a.m., and our tour guide, Jack, was both kind and highly informative throughout the day. The itinerary was customizable, which allowed us to explore several beautiful locations. A definite highlight was Mount Fuji—it’s truly a sight not to be missed. However, it’s important to note that we spent significantly more time driving than on the actual excursions. Due to heavy traffic, we were only able to visit about five stops and ended up returning later than scheduled, which incurred an additional cost. Fortunately, Jack was very accommodating and flexible with the extended time. While the tour offers stunning views and a unique experience, we would recommend staying overnight—perhaps one or two nights—to truly enjoy the area without feeling rushed. The long drive (approximately 2.5 hours each way) and traffic congestion took away from the overall experience. Or we recommend starting the excursion around 6:30 or 7 am. I did see other people getting picked up from our hotel this early.
