Shinkyo Bridge
The Shinkyo Bridge (Shinkyō, "sacred bridge") stands at the entrance to Nikko's shrines and temples, and technically belongs to Futarasan Shrine. The bridge is ranked as one of Japan's three finest bridges together with Iwakuni's Kintaikyo and Saruhashi in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Nikko Tosho-gu
Toshogu Shrine in Nikko. Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which controlled Japan for more than 250 years until 1868, or the Edo Period, is buried at this temple. This shrine complex is a UNESCO World Heritage site. As you explore its magnificence, your guide can tell you fascinating tales about the architecture.

The experience started out rough when at 8 pm the night before the driver (Zaidi) messaged me that he would pick us up an hour and a half before our ticketed pick up time. Because we had just arrived, we were already asleep when he sent it. It was also clear from the message he sent back to me at 5am that his English was poor. He spoke very little English and could not understand any of my questions. He was not Japanese and had no real knowledge of the area, the culture, or traditions and had nothing to say about anywhere we visited. He basically dropped us off and told us to meet him at the car. It was not at all what we expected or hoped for. If you are looking for an informational tour, this is not the tour to take. If you like to leave when you expect to leave, this is not your tour. And, even as a driver I saw him text while driving on the interstate. At one point he even took a picture of the cars in front of us and sent the photo by text. It wasn’t very safe (or legal).

Terrible. The driver did not go to all the sites as advertised. Total time spent on the actual sites was less than 1 hr. First he did not stop at the bridge. He just drove by. No Narabi Jinzo. No Tamozawa imperial villa. Spent 15 min at the Kevin Falls. 10 min at Lake Chunzeji. The drive just kept saying traffic is bad. I think he simply wanted to go home. The whole thing felt like a joke. A USD$420 joke.

The trip was amazing. Shah did an amazing job showing us around, helping us with getting tickets and accommodating to our needs. If you want to enjoy multiple key sites around Nikko without the restrictions of a group tour, I recommend taking this private tour. Thank you!!!

Our tour was scheduled to start at 8:30 am. The evening before our tour we received a text from Bobby, our guide, asking to start at 6 am because of possible "bad traffic". We were not able to start 2 1/2 hours before the scheduled time but said we could start at 7:30 am and if we were not able to fit all the stops listed on the "what to expect on the tour" we would like give up the 2 hour stop at the shrine. We had bad weather and our guide was helpful in making sure we were able to have lunch out of the storms. We were given a choice of visiting the shrine or a samurai village. We chose the village. Looking back on the samurai village I am not sure why we stopped there. Most of it was closed or mini workshops only for children. The stop was defiantly not worth seeing if we had to give up other stops on the schedule. Our tour was outlined as approximately 10 hours in length and we arrived back at our hotel with our tour lasting 9 1/2 hours. After we were dropped off we realized we never visited Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park. We were looking forward to seeing and taking the tour of the former summer residence of the royal family. We specifically said if we had to miss something it would be the shrine and the samurai village that were were taken to was never on the tour outline. We were never told we would not see the residence or asked if we wanted to skip it. Overall we enjoyed our ride around Nikko but we were very disappointed to have missed the summer residence.

The sites visited were amazing. We loved the destinations (shrine and temple, falls are a unique and wonderful experience). Our guide Irfan was very helpful and flexible to allow us to make the most of our time.
