First off, when we got to the meeting place and asked other guides from this same operator if we were at the right spot, they reacted in an incredibly hostile way. Rude, impolite, rolling their eyes as if we were a nuisance, not just one guide but 3 of them so this set the tone immediately. Regarding the length of the tour let me explain why it takes around 9h. For the tour pick ups we could choose 2 spots: Tokyo Station or Shinjuku. After everyone was picked up, we drove around the city back and forth between Shinjuku, Tokyo station, Ikebukuro, Tokyo station area again, Shinjuku and then finally drove north. For clarity, you can just drive north from Shinjuku to get to Nikko. This made absolutely no sense and at some point I couldn't help but wonder if I had stepped into the Twilight Zone. Even though our guide Zachary was very nice, most of the tour was actually catered to the Chinese audience so the majority of the (lengthy) explanations were in Chinese and then very briefly translated to English. Don't advertise for an English tour if there's no intention of actually giving a proper tour in English. Now the worst parts about the way this tour was advertised: – Under all of the scenic spots in the itinerary said "Admission Ticket Free". This is absolutely incorrect except for the places where there's no need for a ticket. To visit the Nikko temple you need to buy a ticket there, it is NOT included in this tour. Writing "Admission Ticket Free" is straight off misleading. – Second, we booked this tour because the operator included in their itinerary a cable car ride, which others didn't. Spoiler alert, there was no cable car ride. We checked other tours, way cheaper, who offered the exact same experience minus the cable car but decided to go for this one exactly because of this unique experience. When I asked our tour guide if we were not doing it, he said they hadn't done this in months. We essentially paid extra for false advertisement. Since then this has been removed from their itinerary, I believe. Despite having contacted the operator multiple times through multiple channels, and despite our tour guide telling me to do so as well since we should be issued a refund as the itinerary was advertised incorrectly, I was given absolutely no answer. So here we are. Having said that, Nikko is absolutely stunning and 100% worth the visit, just not with this operator.
