  • Ribera del Duero wine tour guided by Ismael

Our guide Ismael arrived at the pickup site 10 minutes early to give everyone enough time to meet and get in the Mercedes Sprinter. There were three other couples taking the English-language tour with us. While the van had seating for 9, it really was a bit cramped. Ismael speaks excellent English - we had no difficulty understanding him. He provided an overview of wine making history in Spain during a part of the drive and gave us quiet to relax and enjoy the scenery on the rest of the 1.75 hour drive from Madrid. The itinerary included three wineries: a rising star boutique called Territorio Luthier, a large mass producer called Bela, and a small multigenerational winery called Val Sotillo, with lunch (not included in the price) at a local tapas bar with authentic cuisine and atmosphere. The experience at the two small wineries felt up close and personal, with the chief sommelier at one and the owner at the other. My husband and I purchased wine from both of these to have shipped back to the States. The sample pours at all three were generous, with a minimum of three tastes of about a half glass each. Each winery also served crackers, cheese, and salami so that we weren’t tasting on empty stomachs. 10 out of 10! Highly recommend!

Wonderful experience. First vineyard we visited wasn’t impressive but the last two were especially the cave tour. The wines were very good and our tour guide very engaging.

Unbelievable. A great day. They took us to 3 different vineyards and we could taste several wines in each. We also saw different types of wineries and technologies, with very good explanations from the hosts of each vineyard. We personally loved the First and Third parties we visited, the latter with Roman-era cellars, amazing to get lost in those barrel-filled tunnels. Super activity 100% recommended. Our excellent Ishmael guide, giving us time to enjoy each activity.
